Tidworth ENDURO 2010

After a quick bit of Geekery i've stolen the info off the site and sorted it out and i got 18th/41 in sportsman and 59th/105 overall competitors.

I call that a Success for my first ever enduro tbh.

A round of applause to all 120 riders who turned up at the SETRA "Mark Andrews" Hare n Hounds at Tidworth nr Andover in the freezing conditions.
The start was at 10am and it was minus 3 and the course SETRA had designed did no favours to anyone and was not for the meek, with some great but very tricky climbs that were even tricky for the very experienced riders, there was plenty of frozen water about as well that once broken was very ice cold water, then there were the cavernous ruts that the Army tanks make which kept riders very much on there toes, however the ones that were not concentrating found themselves many a time parted from their machines, many riders came in after 1 lap just to try and get some feeling back into their fingers, it was a real test of man, machine, guts and that much needed ingredient "The will to finish".
The star of the day was David Biles who won the overall and Expert class with 10 laps on the big 530 KTM, he did not have it all his own way as 2nd and 3rd place Adam Kerr 450 KTM and John Lister 450 KTM respectively were also on 10 laps and it really was a sprint finish, well done David, sadly 2 of the pre favourites Freddie Broadway and rejuvenated Robert Taylor both retired early.
Clubman A was a one man show with only winner Aaron Fudge on his 300 KTM managing 9 laps and a determined ride it was with many a time Aaron looking out of control, 2nd and 3rd Andy Fifield 250 KTM and Reg Sheppard 250 KTM respectively had their very battle going on with Andy just clinching 2nd over Reg with both managing 8 laps.
Clubman B was a three man battle with all on 8 laps and the only 3 riders in clubman B to do 8 laps but top honours went to Husaberg rider Glenn Morgan on his 450 beast, a very close 2nd and 3rd went to Ian Clarke 450 Husaberg and Graham Lovell 450 KTM respectively, but all 3 were in with the shout for victory, a very good ride for Glenn.
Sportsman class was dominated by Dave Phillips 250 KTM with a fantastic 8 laps with another Husaberg battle for 2nd and 3rd with Teamsnappers very own Rich Troth 390 Husaberg just edging Rodney Crowden 450 husaberg for 2nd place, both Rich and Rodney were only Sportsman to complete 7 laps.
The MX class was won by Michael Caufield with 6 laps on his 250 Honda, 2nd was Nick Eagle 250 Honda with 4 laps and 3rd with 3 laps completed John Doddy 250 KTM.
A very hard event and well done to all who competed.

That looks so dry compared to last year! I only had my wrist strapped up for 4 weeks after....

I'm kicking myself i didn't enter now.. :blast

It was EXTREMELY cold. I lost all feeling in the end of my fingers (no heated grips on KTM 300).

Ground was very hard like concrete as I found out when I hit it several times. :(

First lap we agreed to take it slowly and not crash too many times. One hazard before the end I was in wrong gear and stalled it, letting Martin go past. Wish I had got electric start model now instead of kick start model. I followed Martin to end of lap resisting urge to over take him on the way to the transponder area where it records your lap time. He managed to get his back wheel caught on a root and held us up for a few seconds before I could record my lap so I was classed as 12 seconds slower than him that lap. Never mind, I thought, I will be quicker on the next.

Martin crashed at bottom on steep descent so being the kind considerate father that I am I considered stopping to help him pick up his bike. Then I thought, nah feck him, its every man for himself so I rode off and left another competitor to help him.:D

Stopped to refuel after 3 laps and had to revise my target from 6 down to 5 laps. Unfortunately, I took some hard crashes on lap 4 one of which nearly knocked me out. Ground was like solid concrete and I cracked my head hard and lay there for about half a minute. Marshall didn't want me to continue but I completed the lap. It was now 12.35 and my finish was 13.12 so I had enough time for another lap but I was simply too knackered and beat up. Every single muscle in my body was aching and I had some nice bruises from the hard crashes. I still had a 4 hour drive back to Devon so decided enough was enough. Many competitors had stopped out on track and several had given up early. I just hope nobody was injured in all the crashes I saw.

Martin limped in about 15 minutes later. He explained that he had not completed the lap as he was stuck in first gear so he had ridden directly back to the finish missing out all the route. I've decided I won't protest his result despite the fact he finished 15 minutes behind me and cut out half the course.:D

We packed up quickly and found an excellent little pub down the road for a traditional roast beef Sunday lunch. We were both so knackered we struggled to use the knife and fork to eat with.:)

Got back home late last night and had hot bath to ease the aches and pains.

Fantastic weekend.:)

Really tough event this time and Martin did extremely well to beat many others. I'll have my revenge in February.:)

DRY? Thats because it was frozen solid! I left a bottle of drink in the pits but when I tried to take a swig it was also frozen. Some of the course looked really easy due to it being "dry" but then the bike would suddenly slide from under you as it was so slippery on the frozen surface. It made me feel like a complete idiot to crash a bike whilst riding in a straight line.

Great fun though.:D
