Has anybody got any tips on how to tighten the mini hose clamps on the vent and fuel overflow hoses in the tank. I've been planning on replacing the fuel filter and thay look a complete bugger to clamp shut. Is a special tool needed or can I buy small enough clamps which can be tightened with a screw driver!?
I can't seem to track down any smaller than about 12mm in diameter, hoses are about 8mm.

:stupid

More proof that some people need protecting from themselves..........

If they`ve got a 'slot-head',use a suitable screwdriver.

If they`ve got an 8mm (sometimes 7mm) hexagon head, use a same sized 'nut spinner' or 1/4" drive socket..... :banghead:

whoooaa tarka :eek

ive a dakar and some of the hose clips are special ones probably manageable with water pump pliers but your supposed to use a special tool :mmmm

matt try a local motorfactors for small hose clips that will be suitable and CAN be tightened with a screwdriver :thumb

You don't need to remove those to replace a fuel filter -

Perhaps if you're using "Jubilee" style clips for fuel applications, it may be you that needs protecting? The clips in the tank use neither of your "advised" tools..... :)

Erailer bmw bikes (eg K75, K100, K11) used clamps that had screw and nut mechanics - and they did have a slot head and a 7 mm outside hex head. Nice stainless steel too. I've replaced the original screws with allen heads as I find that a lot better to use with a ball end allen wrench. And these would be field servicable.

 They'll cost more than those disposable thingys though.

True as that maybe...the guy was asking for advice on a specific item, which does not use those..... :)

Yes,indeed....

The confusion was created by the thread title and start of the wording...

Add in 'hangover head' and get 'foot in mouth' rant...( :o )

Sorry, Matt... ;)
