Tim, just a note to say thanks for your age old post about how to bypass the fuel pump controller. Mine failed in a little mountain town in the eastern coastal Sierra Madre range here in Mexico, 250kms from my home. I had downloaded the page and saved it as a PDF on my cel phone. Damn glad I did. I was able to ride it home.

Thanks again, Tim! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

If you haven't read Tim's fix for a duff FPC, it is worth a look.

Sorry about that.
Here is a link to the bypass you can build with a duff one and I recommend carrying it on the bike and not in your toolkit so you can swap it out with just a Leatherman type tool:

And here is Tim's fix that got me home:

Tim's is workaround number 2.

Glad I knew about this fix, everyone should understand it and be prepared to do it in my opinion.

Don't forget! On the F800 and the F650GS the torx required is a T-10 size, very small.

I am now going to zip tie my bypass cable I am making with the old parts to a an easy location under the seat and also a T-10 L-shaped key.

While at the local dealer today (who were closed for inventory in parts but they did at least order the new FPC unit for me for about $170 US ($2,240 pesos) I explained the bypass to the salesman who is a very good guy. He called the mechanic over who is a young guy who hadn't seen the bypass that Tim did.

I noticed all the new bikes have a black powder coated FPC unit and a noticeably thicker rubber boot covering the area where it resides.

He does seem to be a good egg doesn't he, a non bike owning pal of mine who is currently wintering himself in the Moroccan sunshine in a motorhome,:green gri told me recently that he has been taking the advice of a certain Tim Cullis via a motorhome website.:thumb2
