Having managed 10k on the OEM tyres it’s time to change them out.

Choice is extremely limited due to the sizes and a tyre that can take the weight of these bikes.

Despite many seller’s advertising tyres for them, no one actually had them in stock within the UK.

I had three types I was willing to buy, anything really but the horrible concrete Dunlops. Eventually went with Metezeler Cruise Techs as these were the only ones available of any make in the size I needed so no other choice really.

£385 supplied and fitted to loose wheels at my local independent.

I have been working on the Indian Thunderstroke models for 10 years now and changed out many tyres on various models. If anyone on here has a classics style Thunderstroke model with the valanced fenders, shout out here if you want advice on wheel removal. Virtually everyone; professional workshops, all the how to YouTubers etc tell you you need to remove the exhaust system etc or the valances from the guards. This is all unnecessary and could lead to huge labour costs.

The rear wheel can be removed in approx two minutes if done right but you will need a decent lift. The front will come out in maybe 10 minutes but a bit longer if you want to remove the whole front fender which will make it easier to be honest.

Also whilst the wheels are out it’s a good time to underseal the inside of the fenders, I use good old fashioned wax oil. It’s a job worth doing to preserve the tin work, especially if used all year round and in wet weather.

These are also easy and cheap bikes to service, the exception being if it needs to be hooked up to the dealers “digital wrench” for software updates etc. Fortunately you can do the service reset yourself via the Ride Command system.
