Importing from Europe
Don't fully understand where this thread is at, at the moment, however, here is my 10ps worth.
I import a range of products from around Europe and the following applies.
1. The exchange rate £/EU is at the best it has been for over 2 years. 1.48 almost as opposed to 1.42, small but it makes a difference to your profits, if you sell at a fixed £ price.
2. As an importer with a Registered VAT number you pay NO VAT at source, only on your sales, That way you do not have to pay the higher VAT rates that apply in some parts of Europe, then wait 4 months to try and claim it back.
3. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to do back-to-back orders like TT UK, and I think it is one of the reasons why their prices are so high. I import aluminium boxes from Slovenia and it costs me the same amount to ship 10 boxes in as opposed to 1, my 11 year old can tell you the economics of this one.
So rip off yes, is it malicious, I suspect not I think it is more their lack of business sense.
