The AA website is telling me that it will take roughly 2hours and 40minutes to get from Perth to Inverness.
For those who have done the journey recently, would that be about right?
And, does anyone who has done it very recently, know of any hold ups that are presently occupying it?
Thank you.:beerjug:

..... ......I've got it in my head that I can do Dalkeith to Inverness in around two and a half hours......unless I was dozing at the 'bars' and lost track of time.....:duno

AA website say's my hoose to Moffat 1hr 41 minutes, this morning 1hr 2 minutes. Erring on the side of caution a little mibbies

When driving for Megabus.com, I used to do it in 2hrs.15mins-ish and they were flat out at 60, downhill with a tailwind....:augie :thumb

A man of your standing should do it in a lot less...:thumb2

A9 is a pita

The A9 is a complete pain. Why not take a wee bit more time and go via Blairgowrie and the lecht then head west to Tomintoul, Grantown and then B9007 over the Ferness moor to Nairn?

+1 B9007 Great road, still lots of grit around up here on the back roads so take care on the corners.

I'd say just over two hours Inverness to Perth is reasonable - even in a Land Rover! Not recommended at night though, in the pi55ing rain. That is truly a crap experience.

In full flow, just about. However, not at St C's which is the local Episcopal (Anglican/English) congregation in the town. You should have stopped and gone in, even if just for some chin dropping moments...;)

Yeh, but I've seen your riding style before...:blast

It is a means to an end. Time will be the important factor - plus, I'm not leaving from Perth. I can bimble back on my return, after the meeting, when time is less of an issue. :beerjug:

Thanks to the rest of your for your comments.
Good to hear from you CC :thumb

Did it on 2 wheels last week and it wasn't so bad, but the road works seem to have stepped up a few gears now. Just came down from Ullapool today. On 4 wheels. Lovely weather. But dear, oh dear; the road works. Traffic lights. Slow drivers who 'can't pass, won't pass'. Took a much needed pit stop in Pitlochry. Be ready for anything.

Sounds about right, but the A9 is the worst road in Scotland, if not the worst road in the UK north of the M62 (motorways excluded) :(

The A93/A939 option is my choice everytime :thumb

Nice round trip of about 490 miles yesterday.
220 up to Culloden, and 270 on the way home via The Lochy.
A9 was fine. Passed a 5/6 mile stretch of parked cars, buses, lorries, vans. Rode past them wondering what was going on, and got to the front of queue with overturned bus. Had been passed by 3 ambulances with escort as I made my way northwards towards Dalnacardoch. Couple of other bikes there, a two up ancient Kwacker, and a shiny 800 GS - on his way to JoG.
Witihn five minutes of arriving, the three bikes were waived through. Excellent!
Culloden was its usual welcoming self - there was hardly anyone else there, and certainly no other GSer's.
Was asked to remove my helmet in the Tesco petrol station at Culloden - hey ho. I do think that it was just one wee fascist woman, for other staff members were just rolling their eyes. It was busy, and who needs a scene? Life's too short.:nenau
A pleasure to see GC again - hopefully, maybe, see you in a couple of weeks.
Unfortunately phone/camera won't seem to mate with pc so no pics of baked potato & haggis at Culloden, nor of the Strawberry lumpy bumpy (?) at The Lochy: sorry.:blast
So if anyone sees a king from the west, or an eccentric fifer in the next couple of days, tell them it was a grand day out, and they were missed.:jager

When's the next one?

It's not that bad, especially if you haven't done it before. That said, I always take the road through Blaigowrie, Glenshee, Braemar and the Lecht (A93/A939), it's a storming run. Takes longer though, even on a GS :D

I did Edinburgh A720 services to Inverness in exactly 2h30 last Sunday and have the receipts to prove it (up the A9), but it was late at night so little traffic. Reckon 1hr45 to 2 hours max in the daytime to Perth on the A9.

Mr Shiny 800GS was parked up ay JOG at the Seaview Hotel when i went to pick up a cyclist who had also just finished LE JOG yesterday. Got talking to the cyclist in the cab about the 800GS that was parked up.

Cyclist says he's had a go on a 1200GS..his mates...who turns out to be Rob Mac on this site.
