As far as I understand your point, if I use my unit in Europe with Euro City Navigator, I'll not have any mapping if I zoom out over 8km scale - correct?
...
I therefore live in range scales under 1km, as a general rule.
Exactly Mike, no problems if you don't zoom out to a level where you don't seen anything sensible anyway. It does work beyond 8km, to about 20 or 30km. If you don't see any details then, who cares, right? They only clutter up your screen and make the redraw take ages.

If I were to load World Map at the same time as I loaded ECN, would that not fill the gap anyhow??
That does fix the zoom out issue, but not the autorouting when you're outside of the CityNavigator maps. When you're in eastern Europe with WorldMap for example, you'll see where you are (moving map) but you won't be able to do autorouting. That is a disadvantage, as far as autorouting would useable on the low detail / limited accuracy basemap.

Cheers,
Michel

So, as long as I'm within the coverage of my European CN (assuming I have the relevant maps loaded on the chip), I can either have no coverage when zoomed out above 8km, or I can load World Map as well, which will, to all intents and purposes, make it emulate a Nav II with a European basemap. If I wander off the edge of the ECN maps I've got loaded, I'll lose autorouting.

I can live with that.

Thanks Michel, Pan et al...

Now - what mapping software is available for Central & South America?...

Hi Like you I could nt see the advantage of the BMW version - for the extra money- I got a Bike and Car Kit from adventuremotorcycling uk - in wales delivered to ireland in two days.
Fitted it , had chosen the Touratech mount - it just is so over engineered and designed beautifully - went to Paris for a wedding on Friday last - thru Wales and England to Tunnel - then on to SE of Paris - it is the best bit of Kit Ive ever had - and I can see the advantage of the buttons to the left of the screen on the BMW version - but not by much - and the touch screen is the Biz - with or without gloves , hail rain or snow ( and I had them all !)
Used it to do the sights Sun day morning , simply looked up under find nearby - and it was brilliant - absolutely brilliant !
Yep a bigger CF card is good , I have the 256k - and have half of France and most of the UK - all of the areas I was due to travel - set up was done in about 30 mins -
I did not hear U say you ordered the 2620 with the micro drive and personally I would NOT - its a HDD - and is a mechanical device with poiters and stuff - not a great place , a Bike for such a piece.- But may be its fine !!

Just ordered the 2610 today came to about £700. What mounts are people out there using? I'm trying to balance function against cost. The wife will have a fit when she gets her CC bill as it is. ( Mine wouldnt go through so I used hers:D ).

Baz:

I use the Garmin mount, and attach it to RAM hardware. I've now put over 15,000 miles on the 2650 with the Garmin mount and had no problems. Nice thing about the Garmin mount is that if you order the Garmin bracket with the cable, you get both a mounting bracket and a motorcycle-specific cable for less than USD $50.

The Touratech mount is very German - nice, but way the heck over-engineered, and awfully expensive - and I think it is a bit too conspicious on the bike, meaning, it draws too much attention to the GPSR.

You can see some photos of it here: Garmin SP 2610/2650 Motorcycle Mount details (photos)

How did you get round the "hidden" tax thing you mentioned earlier

Yep ordered from Aspid. the hidden tax bit was just ifor the Euros price which is what the card is debited in. When converted it does come in at about £690.

Does the mount come complete or will I need more bits to mount to the bike?

Cheers Baz

RAM mount

At about the same price I would recommend the Garmin cradle. First, I and many of my friends use it and it have found it trouble free. Second, I know of at least 3 cases where for whatever reason the Garmin cradle has resulted in breaking the 2610 at the topmost mount point. When it breaks free, the cradle will no longer hold the 2610. It is the 2610 that breaks and not the mount so the 2610 must be returned to Garmin for repair if you choose to continue using the mount. If you do have the Garmin or plan to use one, I would be very careful with it.

Is it just me or does this not make sense. Are you recommending the Garmin or another type of mount?

I tink he meant Ram,

Good gear, good price, GFI, Just ordered on from GPSW including a handlebar clamp and suction cup for the car 47 quid...

Thats including delivery to mainland Europe. so for you I think it would be about 34£ just for the bike...

Is that GPS Warehouse?
I looked on there but couldnt see any motorcycle mounts.
Anyone know the price of the touratech version?

Yes I meant GPSW as in warehouse try a search on their site for ram and you will find the gear...

I think its http://www.ram-mount-uk.com but I might be wrong...

Cheers found it. How secure is the GPs in this mount. ie If teh bike topples will the GPS stay in place? Or would I be looking at the touratech for that much security?

Baz

Baz I have a 60C, in the ram mount I can't see it ever coming out. Before I had a Garmin mount, it broke after 1500KMS and I still have not worked out why...

(I still tie the wrist strap to the cross bar though)

Ciano,

Got yours yet? My order seems to have stalled, I think they are waiting for stock. Have you had any communication from Aspid?

Rgds,

Rob

Mine arrived from Aspid too. Haven't seen the bill on the credit card yet but I am expecting that it's around £710. Looks like a great tool.

Rgds,

Rob
