Time to worry or time to trade in?

Ok, owned brand new GSA for 3 months, 1700 miles and yesterday I noticed that the rear taillight bulb had blown, (well the filament had broken, no sign of brown burning on the bulb). Dont know how long its been like that, but is this the start of many electrical problems? Has it happened just because I went down a particular bumpy road (that a Harley could manage)? Should I look to trade in for something with better reliability like a 15 year old Ducati? Or is this just a one off and I should stop worrying about little things like that and wonder how to pay the mortgage instead.

Thoughts please chaps.

No wurries

Mine blows about once every 6 months (12k miles), but it's not a sign of things goin to pot... always carry a spare with me now.... & check it whenever I'm stopped alongside a shiny car or shop window (I'm checking the light... honest).

You can get heavy duty bulbs that prevent this happeniong. I used to have them in 4x4's as they went in these all the time due to the harsh conditions they went through and all the shocks transferred from the terrain covered.

Most automotive specialists should have them. ASk for heavy Duty Bulbs.

The OE fitting is an Osram Long-Life bulb with a high B3 value (the burning time of a sample of bulbs before 3% of them blow).

Most aftermarket bulbs have a lower B3 value and are likely to blow more quickly.

Try the Stanley/Raybrig supported filament bulb that is fitted OE to Hondas.

What about fitting one of the LED conversion bulbs? They're about £4.50 each but should last forever?

Good idea, but I don't think that they will work if the bike has ABS as the ABS circuitry uses the bulb filament as some sort of system check.

If the brake-light filament blows, the ABS doesn't set.

i'm thinking the same, my front tyre pressure had dropped 3Ib -- how can you have faith in a machine like that on a long trip -

I had to put some more petrol in mine today. And I only did it 200 miles ago!! Unbelievable.....

that's nothing - i went down to my bike today and it wasn't running !!
I had to turn the ignition on myself and press a button .

Whatever next ?

its god punishing you for only having done 1700miles, you lazy tosser;)

Right after all the suggestions I am going to get rid of the bike for an auto starting car with an empty ash tray, tyre pressure monitors and LPG conversion.....and hopefully one that a taillight doesn't blow after 1700 miles.

:P
