Timing chain snapped

Pic on page one of this thread shows the damage.

I have seen the engine parts and they all look ok to me and I am told by the technician that they are fine.
 
Thanks for that, if mine ever fails in a similar fashion I shall get a steel pin ground up at a local engineering firm or all bike engineering etc from EN16T or similar to repair it, sod paying for cases or a short engine. Glad your warranty covers it, hope you get a new engine rather than a shop rebuild.
 
A whole short engine for one bent pin. kinnell! I assumed that was just part of it. There might be cracks elsewhere but a new engine does look like overkill. Good job warranty is paying.
 
Dealer wants to put in new engine as it saves on time, but BMW are trying to push the very slightly cheaper option which incurs mega labour.

I think that's because the dealer has to suck up most of the labour charge - I remember Balderstones whinging about it...
