Right folks, got my 2002, 1150 over a month ago. I've done various little mods including upgraded cam chain tensioner.

Their is still a small rattle ( not as bad as it was )when the bike first starts. The bike has done 46,000 miles and I was wondering is it due a new chain and if so how hard is it to do ?

dont think i have heard of anyone changing one ,some folk on here done over 200k and never seen a thread about changing cam chains .
just ride it mate :thumb

Will do, Just thought the upgraded cam chain tensioner was suppose to take the noise away completely, that was the reason for the question.

I changed both mine to try and cure a rattle. Bike had done about 100k and there was about 2-3mm stretch in the chain when I compared it with a new one. I spoke to some bloke I found online somewhere who used to work for the German OE chain manufacturers. He sold me a couple of chains for about £25 each I think. On his advice I split the new and existing chains by pushing a pin nearly all the way out, joined the new one to the end of the new one (pushing the old pin back) , rotated the engine then rejoined the 2 new ends together by pushing the new pin back in. Sorted the timing back out and all was gravy. I've done about 30k on it since then. Not a difficult job - especially if you pop the head off at the same time to give more room. The bloke builds racing Astons and says he's always splitting and joining chains and they're fine.
