thinking of replacing the timing cover bolts with some stainless steel ones, is it an easy job ? change 1 bolt at a time ? use loctite ? thanks

if doing this i would make sure to use lots of anti sieze compound as u will get a reaction between stainless and aluminium and once that happens u wont get the cover off too easily

Copper, Stainless and Aluminium....An interesting combination.

Anyone care to guess which has the greater affinity for oxygen ?

If you hav'nt seen it before, theres info here on stainless timing cover bolts;

Dont loctite them in :eek:
Copaslips ok, but Alumslip is better :thumb2

(no connection with this seller, just providing a link for you)
Be careful not to overtighten them, because lubing the threads make stripping them easier
Use A4 marine grade stainless replacement fixings, (again ebay is your friend here)
Replacing one at a time is a good plan:thumb

how easy is this to do ?? i notice the bottom 2 are right behind the exhaust !! is there oil behind the cover, am i likely to spring a leak by disturbing the bolts / cover ? is there a torque setting for the bolts or is it just hand tight ??
