Timing marks

Just doing a service on a ‘14 LC.
With the pin tool in position to denote tdc the cams and piston were way off.
When the cams were aligned and the piston was at TDC (using a diall gauge) the pin hole in the rotor/ flywheel was nowhere to be seen.
Has anyone come across the rotor being assembled wrong at the factory?
It is a composite unit that bolts together before bing installed in the engine.
The pin hole was appx 60deg out and the cams appx15deg out making me think it’s bees wrongly assembled.
Any experience of this?
 
Just looking in my Haines manual it says
"look for the 8mm locking pin hole viaa the apeture in the crankcase (do not mistake the 6mm hole at the BDC position for the 8mm hole at the TDC position) - - the piston is at TDC when the lobes are facing as shown and the fats on the ends of the camshafts are vertical and parsallel and the hole for the pin is centred in the aperture"
Any use?

Yep got the manual.
I think I didn’t make myself clear
With the pin in the 8mm hole the cams are appx 15deg out.
With the cams and piston lined up using the cam tool and a depth gauge the 8mm hole is not lined up.
 
Ah, beyond my paygrade unfortunately.
We will have to wait for another grownup to arrive - maybe Steptoe or Mistacat will venture along soon? Or send them a PM (or wahtever its called these days!)

I have 2022 model R1250GS at 40K kms I was checking the valve timings and realized the exact same thing you explained.

I set my left piston to exact firing TDC but I cannot see the TDC locking pin on the flywheel !

If I rotate the crankshaft about 45 degrees only then I can see the 8mm TDC locking hole !

So I assume my flywheel is off synch and it skipped from it's set position.

What have you done for your problem, did you find the main reason for it and did you fix it?
