hello

a mate and i are off to North Africa in April, me on a 1200gsa mate on a 1150 gsa. we are plaaning on ride through Europe and having two weeks in N. Africa. Does any one have any advice on tyres? Would knobbles be ok to do the fast motorways of Europe and still have grip for trails and tracks or do we need to change tyres?

thank you ,

Adam

ps getting very excited!

I did Steptoe's dash last April on TKC's.......started off with the rear on about 1200 miles and the front had about 2000 on it.

The rear was shot when we got back, but it made it, the front was OK for another 1500 miles.

I did have a bit of a scary weave-on at over 100 on the motorways, but with my Vernatech panniers and a top box on, I was expecting that....it smoothed out at 110 but don't forget the TKC's are only rated for 100 or so.

I also had some cracking around the tread blocks on the rear after 100 miles of seriously fast twisties when Blowzorn and I really went for it.........an awesome ride, but it did show the limitations of the TKC's (the first and only time I've found the end of the grip on smooth hot tarmac on them).

As long as the tyres are fresh when you set off, you should be OK :thumb

The mileage of the trip was just under 5000 miles for me, in london. Some of the others further up north did 5400 miles.

I also did a trip last dec/jan, totalled 5600 miles morocco and back, the rear TKC had some wear ( i took spare front & rear tyres, but didn't need them) , but made it easily, and i carried on using for a couple weeks after i got back.

Both trips were riding down through france and spain

thanks for help

nice one,:thumb
it seems the TKC's are the way to go. what's the best price youv'e seen for them? How do BMW dealers compair for price?

yep. www.mynetmoto.com has plenty.
Front €82.95/£60.65
Rear €123.76/£84.11
ReplyI got from Garfieldus (minus his sarcasm) when I posted in for sale and wanted. Try and use it to beat up your dealer on costs:D
