Tire Pressure Valve Caps

Hi guys, has anyone used these little valve caps that either give you the pressure reading in a little window or turn fr4om green to red when pressure is lost?

If so, any good or not reliable??????
 
There's always that little doubt if they're working correctly.

So you end up checking them with an airline anyway . IMHO
 
Just to counter that :D

I've got 'em and checked regularly and they worked fine........

You can take the off every now and again and clean them if you want.

Horses for courses, there'll probably be 50/50 for and against.

Also got ultraseal in the tyres which seems to have stopped and little drops in pressure over time

(he says opening up another can of worms :hide)

mine got delivered last week, although with the canbus bike it cant run off the 12v socket and needs to run direct from the battery.

seems ok and a pump is a lot better than the gas cylinder idea from bmw/rema tip top repair kits. (although will use the left over bungs as I have paid for them before using the US bungs :) )

although they ship using the US postal service which then in turn uses the parcel farce (royal 'monopoly' mail) which will add a very pleasant 'handling' charge before they release it to you :spitfire

shame they dont have a UK importer
 
I use them, trust them and think they are a really good visual check, have tested them at different pressures and they seem to do what they say on the can. I am a lazy get that cant be arsed to check the pressures every time I go out on the bike, these 'lil beauties allow me to carry on being lazy ....... Like Jon, I also use ultraseal - belt AND braces, but fit it and end the worry .... I say .....:thumb2

I first saw this on the site and bought one as a result of a gser's recommendation, it's a terrific little tool, I've used it in earnest when a friends car tyre had slow puncture and I topped it up enough for her to get to quik fit or wherever she went, it was quite impressive. Always in the back box now.

Its nothing to do with the canbus that stops it working! The R1200GS power socket will supply 5Amps (I think). The pump requires a 10-15 Amp fused supply so its probably overloading the power socket hence the canbus turns it off.

you can cut the ends of the croc clips off and wire it to the battery and run the wire to a convenient point
 
I still have one on the front wheel because it was balanced with it on (quite heavy!). But I removed the rear one after the last change of tyre following an incident when I returned to my bike at a show to find a flat rear tyre. I assumed a puncture and hunted for the object causing it. Couldn't find anything but when I checked the cap I found it slightly loose. They work by pressing on the valve allowing air into the cap, pushing the green/red centre up into the window. If the cap is not tight air escapes to atmosphere. My guess is that some chav had noticed the cap (nice and shiny!) started to unscrew it (It was tight with a locking nut!) and when he heard the hiss of escaping air legged, it leaving the air to escape. I used all the Co2 bottles in the BMW kit to inflate it enough to reach a garage. I now carry a small pump on long runs. I also found that it could take as much as -4 psi from normal to show the red. I now check using a gauge before long runs and weekly.
