Advices please fellas.
Wot a day, just rode home through hurricane Edna, some prat in a van tries to wipe me out while he’s on the phone, I stop off at Hallfords for a pressure gauge for my tires, arrives home safely, gets down to do the check and “ Damm It” a bloody Philips screw firmly embedded in the back tire.
Any road the Question is, Bikes got 9 months warranty. Will I be in breach if I get my local garage to fit new tires or do I have to go back to my BMW dealer for them?
Cheers Nozza

No, just go to a quality independant tyre service, there are a few around that offer a ride in ride out service.

In the central south Micheldever tyres are my favourite:clap

You can get the tyres done anywhere, provided they are properly fitted BMW won't be able to avoid any warranty claims. It's EU law that you don't have to have main dealer servicing to maintain warranty (well that's what I was told!)
I had new tyres from local M/C tyre specialist and then had two new wheels under warranty and no problem (in fact no one asked where I got the tyres), of course if they refit the wheels wrong then warranty is void.

Nozza...the last thing you want to do ever is use a BMW dealer for tyres......

In general, they don't want to do the work and have little profit margin because they don't specialise in tyres.......this means that on the whole, they're extremely expensive for tyres/fitting, leading to one or two people in the past who don't understand simple business economics to say they've been ripped off by their dealer

As mentioned above, incorrect fitting or damage to the rims/bike through incorrect fitting etc becomes the responsibility of the place that fitted the tyres rather than the dealer, but that's obvious. ;)

No, you need to fit BMW tyres and fill with BMW air.

I always thought this but Pidcocks did me a set of Battlewings for £168 all in which I thought was very reasonable (true, they were fitting new wheels at the same time so labour charge).

Put that gloop stuff in - you would not believe the hole it plugged in my rear tourance (No 10 wood screew then a number of failed attempts with plugging kit)

Superb stuff

I had a nail in my tire at 600 miles.I then put ultraseal into the tyre and pulled
the nail out.The same tyre has now done 6400 miles with no air loss.

Sorry, but I would have to disagree with that statement.

My local dealer, ie Clarks, Birmingham have always matched (well within a few quid anyway) any other prices that I have been quoted for tyres. Taking into fitting, balancing etc etc

And as they are just 5 minutes from me, I dont mind paying a few quid extra either for that service.

Sorry, but I cannot understand people that buy cheap tyres from tin'ternet, then have to faff about removing/refitting wheels, then have drive Lord knows how many miles just to get them fitted to save a tenner. :nenau

Seems more hassle than its worth to be honest?

OK, if the saving are significant, then of course its worth it.

That's why I said 'On the whole' and 'In general' ;)

There may well be some dealers whose prices aren't so much higher than proper tyre places, but going by what gets reported here, I'd say they weren't common ;)

And it's not a matter of saving a tenner.......there was a thread only a couple of weeks ago and the price for a pair of fitted tyres was over £100 more from the dealer IIRC......

There are also more tyre places than BWM dealers, so the 'driving lord knows how many miles' bit is more likely to apply to someone taking the bike to a dealer.

You may be lucky with your location and the pricing at your local dealer, most aren't.

I rest my case m'lud :D

I had a nice shinny nail in the back of my 900 mile 1200 rear tyre a couple of years ago. Took the back wheel off (a 2 min job) and went to Sharples at Bolton because they had a new tyre in stock, just in case. Anyway they fixed it for a fiver.

When I traded the bike in at 7.5k it was still on the same back tyre.

If you need a new tyre, I recommend

F&B @ SANDBACH 01270 760795

Quite a trek I know, but Steve does a VERY good job for a fair price....£175 ride in/out for a pair last time I was there.

If you need any help, I'm just up the road near Gannow Top

Mike

Surprised to see a GSER so near to me, not seen any on the road around here, thanks for the offer of help buddy sure I’ll see you around.
