I have a pair of TKC 80s from my old 800GS that I want to put on my new one. The central tread depths are rear = 9.5mm and front = 6.5mm. What is the minimum tread depth for useful grip in off-road conditions assuming the going is muddy and hilly?

Impossible question to answer. However, if you end up in the hedge, you need more grip. If you don't, they're fine:thumb2

whatever grips, or not.

you may be over-thinking it.......:comfort

You are right - the only reason I ask is because I am about to swap the tyres myself for the first time in my life and I don't want to be wasting the hours of fun and swearing I am about to 'enjoy'.

Plenty of tread left on them.
What are you - made of money.
Get them put on and don't change 'em until you can see canvas.
