TKC tyres - Help!!

Tourances are still one of the best "compromises" for road riding. I have Dunlop front and Conti Traila Attack rear at the moment, mainly 'cos they were cheap!

Just remember if you are feeling brave that you can make one enormous twat of yourself if you go "green laneing" on road tyres especially in the wet. Wet and mud+ no grippy GS is not a trials bike ride:D

At least the old T66's had some tread:augie

Ride a 100 miles of tarmac anywhere in the uk and maybe a combined total of half a mile will have shite on it

I'd rather compromise the half mile than the 99.5 .:D

Ah, the joys of London; sadly, in the bit of Devon I live in, the first two miles of a 30 mile commute have an ungodly coating of mud, gravel, grass up the middle of the single track roads and small patches of smooth tarmac joining the craters. Bad enough that an old Merc I used to run destroyed its front suspension in 5000 miles.

I live on a track that the local green laners use every week, and just getting over the mud that the KTM's and Landy's leave behind is a challenge some days.

Although I understand that Richmond Park has its moments..

Sorry, missed the point of the thread of course; Knobblies next time round!

Hmm - lots of different views - as expected, I 'spose - quite an emotive subject, I guess.

Think I will maybe stick to the older Tourances - if they will still be available!!

Does anybody know if they're in short supply - ie, worth getting a set now, rather than when I actually need them?

Thanks for the replies, chaps.

Mike

Mike, M&P are doing the old style Tourance @ £145 a pair inc postage. I got some a few weeks ago. http://www.mandp.co.uk/productinfo/902604/Tyres/Tyre-Offers/Metzeler

Ian.

I have TKCs because they make the bike look really good, and along with many other adventure style extras, including some well worn country stickers strategically placed for effect, I'm quite sure people think I've been further than the shops. I might one day.

TKCs, made of rubber.
Thank goodness I'm not the only one... :blast

I have a solo trip to Iceland planned for tomorrow :thumb2 I may not get everything I need so I may call into Tesco as well, I shall mainly be using the older style Tourances :D Its an adventure :thumb2

So that would be out of 100 miles of road you have 6.5 miles of bad surface :augie

Well worth fitting TKC :blast

Don't forget i back onto wimbledon common. So i'm surrounded by mud and fields :D Hence why i have a spare set of wheels with TKC fitted.

Got a set delivered over here. Old style, good tyres, no drama.

Don't be put off the EXPs too easily though. They are a great tyre. More road biased than the old style with excellent grip. Okay they are not a sports tyre, but then they are not designed to be. Longevity? I got about 10,000 out of the pair. (The rear was a little past legality at that stage I must admit :augie)

No, you're right, it's all vanity really!:D

Vanity? I don't have a vain bone in my body, including the one I had cosmetically improved. I just live vicariously but with the tools to make it almost real.

Now, who can send me a breakdown of the trip I'm going to make, including photos (please enable room for me to be photoshopped in) and souvenirs from along the way?

In addition the the TKCs on my bike I have recently added mud, sent from South America.

Hubs - Im in Modbury not too far from you.

I live on a farm and ride back lanes from Ermington to Dartmouth every day to work (the Gara Bridge route).

I use the TKC's as they are the best tyre that I have found for the roads/tracks I ride.

I share the Devon roads with ya Rob and its TKC's for me. Ill admit that it is partly vanity as an ADV shod in road tyres just dont look right. Ive ridden on TKC's in all weathers and seem spot on for me. Gonna change the rear in a week or two. If I wanna get my knee down I get the Benelli out :augie

I liked TKC's on my GS, didn't seem quite the same when I went back to Tourances. You can still press on with TKC's once used to the way they turn in. The'll get you from A-to B over a wider range of surfaces and that is the appeal.

When I first moved back over I had a very near off on a mucky back road when the front wheel stepped out. That wouldn't have happened with the TKC's on.

But you wouldn't choose them for a track day:D
