ABS is sold through instilling fear, uncertainty and doubt into the mind of the buyer - is not really needed and just something else expensive to go wrong. It is a triumph of marketing but not much else.
marcusfordus - Is tonight going to be like waiting for Father Christmas - can't sleep! You've made an excellent choice and the ABS was a good call as you will find out - once you've had ABS you won't want a road bike without it

Whilst out my travels running the bike in I've gave it some large on the front, nothing....
tried it even harder and made it stutter on the front end, so it works, but very late, probably right at the bottom of the front fork travel when pushed hard. I guess under normal riding it will never show it's face again.

That's exactly as the ABS should be on a dry clean surface - it should not interfere until there is some serious braking force involved. ABS is at it's best when panic braking in the wet and when you brake over some white lines/grease or diesel that you had not spotted or smelt. I hardly know it is there in the summer but as an all weather rider, when the winter comes, you will feel it click in and think to yourself "oh, I didn't see that" and it's then that you realise it's real value. It's like another set of eyes.
I wouldn't want a (road) bike without it now. Saved my inattentive arse a couple of times. The fact you can turn it off for proper gravel roads is fab! (So long as you remember to do it before you try to stop on the said gravel!)
