I agree, the only time that I know ABS saved my ass was in pouring rain and I was making an unwanted dash to pick up an airline ticket, my mind was everywhere but in the right place, some old fool pulled out in front of me in a pick up truck.... I know it took me half a second longer to react than normal, the ABS got that half second back for me
Having said that, I agree with JB, on a hot shiny surface, or on a patch of fine grit you need the tyres to dig in a bit, however for me, when I've the choice, I'll take ABS.
