Guys I've just purchased a Stebel Horn and have made a nice little bracket for it, however I have a problem. If I make any modifications to the existing wiring on the bike, I will loose ALL the warranty. So, I would like to know how to wire the bike up without touching the existing wires. Basically my plan is to attach the horns using the existing plug, so that when I need to take the bike in for service, I can pop the old horn back on and noone will be the wiser.

Right now there is a plug that came out of the old horn and that contains the positive and negative wires. Can I connect the Stebel Magnum Twin horn set...

directly to the wiring or should I go through the relay?

I am worried that the current draw from the two horns will overload the wiring. Many thanks for your replies!

Set it up through the relay and don't worry about the warranty :thumb2

do you have a diagram of how to hook up the relay...stupid me...I threw away the diagram that came with the horn

the r1200rt has a super horn as standard. it might have the same connector and might fit straight on. Anyone know?

The r1200rt has a twin horn setup, but you can plug in one horn straight in to the gs wiring harness no problem

BMW use a splitter to add an additional accessory socket to the instrument panel of the bike, but owners can use it to power anything they want. You're supposed to disconnect the built in accessory socket, connect the lead that was formally attached to it to the male plug on the splitter, and hook one of the female leads back up to the socket. You're then left with an unused female plug to use whatever way you like. The part number for this little gem is 61132316621 and then you dont splice anything it can be used for powering relays to lights horn etc

You will not invalidate your warranty!

Just chop the existing horn connectors off, strip the insulation back and crimp or preferably solder a new wire and connector on. Thats exactly what I did to my current and previous GS...

Took my bike to BWM dealers on Tuesday for its service.

When I booked it in I said there was a Stebel horn in the topbox - & would you mind fitting it for me.

No hassle & jobs a good un. They charged me about a tenner to do a job that would have taken me a weekend.

are you mounting this on a 1200 or an 1150?

I had the double on the 1150, but on the 12 could only find space for one

Thanks for the advice all...

Windychuffer thats a great idea, i'll look into that!!

KTM 520 I am fitting it to a 1200. I'll post a pic of the bracket that I made.

hmmm still interested where you are going to mount that without it getting in the way, also have you taken into account the problem of water getting into the horn.

I have a twin set waiting in the garage, might have a go meeself this weekend.

Yeah, they way its orientated, any water that gets sprayed into the front will quickly drain out of the horn again. I guess I could have angled it downwards, but I want the cars infront to get the full volume of the horn!!

I live in the middle east and we dont get a lot of rain here, so thats one less thing I have to worry about, so all I need to really do is take care when washing the bike.

It fits nicely just infront of the front shock. it doesn't get in the way of the steering, telever setup or the front brake cable, so thus far it seems fine! Can't wait to fire this thing up. Hope its as loud as I think its going to be!
