After spending another 400 euro repairing a problem with my r1150gs I'm debating in my head whether or not to upgrade to an '07 or '08 1200gsa. My current gs is '99 with 45000km on the clock and I reckon I'd be lucky if I got a grand and a half for it. It seems to be costing me a lotto keep on the road with little things going wrong with it. So, do I drive my current bike into the road or do I hit the bank for a loan and upgrade??!

When talking about bikes the answer's always "yes" :D

Sure if you don't spend your money on a bike you'll only waste it on women & drink :rob

keep it as a second bike and buy a 1200, priced accordingly less that the 1k that you'll get for the 1150.

45K on your 1150 is nothing:thumb2

some good bargains to be had on here and as tossers upgrade for the new 1200 you'll find something to suit you in the next few months.

Your bike has got to be worth more than that unless it has some serious issues. I paid over £2500 for a '98 R1100GS.

What are the recent issues you are having with it (IE. What did you pay the 400 quid to get fixed)? I'd keep it also.......

Agreed. :nod

45K km is only 28K miles which really is very little for these bikes Cracker. My 1150 is an '01 and has well over 65K miles on her. I recently spent £350 on her but that was all the money I have thrown at her in five years. I'd like to think that that will keep her going for at least another 30 or 40 thousand.

My point is that after spending the thick end of €500 on your bike she should be right now for a lot more miles. Doing a lot of the maintenance yourself also saves a right few quid. Virtually all the information you are likely to need is already on the site here. :thumb2

I wudnt let the old one go for a couple of grand, youd be better off keeping it for when the ice rolls around again, there are some great deals on 1200s now since the newer one is out

sorry meant to say 45000 miles. The final drive was last thinG to go. Will keep her till the summer anyhow but planning on headingto lake Garda in Italy this summer (anyone interested?) and don't know whether to wait till after or get it before hand. Won't be replacing it for at least three months for financial reasons... Like no finances!

If you're only expecting €1500 I'd hang onto it..Although this may not be an option if you want to get something newer.. And there are some bargains out there.

If you've had this properly repaired what else expensive can go?

Hi,
What about a trip to Platinum in Bray for a chat about a full service done with love, maybe new throttle cables, new front brake hoses, tyres if needed, bright headlight bulbs (Halfords) and you might be surprised how you like it after that. I don't think there is much wrong with it, stonking bikes, and you will sink at least 10K to upgrade. Maybe 1K now would make more sense. Can lend you panniers for your summer trip.

i pondered thoughs of upgradin to a 1200gsa last month, called into kearys for a brouse while delivering down that way, then drivin my 1150 home from work later that day i decided,no matter wat i purchase in future,1150 stays.maybe 1150 owners jus get attached to there machines, cuz they is superier:clap:D

Have to agree there. The 1150 is staying.
I'd keep her as a second bike if she's worth €1500.
My 02 is up to 44k miles, touch wood, never let me down in the last 4 yrs ownership.Just service when due.Although discs need replacing soon.

Will hang on and think about it for a while anyhow. Gonna be doing as many rides as possible the next few months and get the most out of the jobs Ive had done and the new tires. Might take you up on the offer of panniers too thanks!
