To cover or not to cover

Ok, so I'm ready for the Scottish weather next week, and am prepared for lots of rain, but my question is, should I put a waterproof cover over the bike at night?

It's always garaged, and is my pride and joy, and as it's a 30th anniversary model, I want to keep it looking good. My philosophy though is that it's gonna get pretty wet all day riding, so why bother to cover it at night, but my mate is taking a cover for his. I hadn't even thought about it up until now, but he's got me thinking now.

So, what do people on here do?

The only valid reason would be security, to keep it out of the view of undesirables.....

.....but I really couldn't be arsed on all counts..getting it dirty is all part of a tour!

Ok, If you hadn't thought about it till your mate told you he was taking one. Then you obviously wheren't thinknig of taking one yourself.

As you say you'll be getting it wet during the day, so what difference will it make with it getting wet at night. It's not like it's going to the below freezing is it?!

You will still be able to give it a good clean when you get home, won't you.

*Just more sh*t to carry. All you will do is seal the moisture in overnight if its wet (and it will be).

Im doing the exact same thing as you next week, wild camping etc and im not even gonna worry about it....

Good point, but I hear Nivea "skin so soft" is the best repellent known to man - doesn't damage paint or plastics either...!

Just had nine days up in bonny scotland , it pi**ed down every day still covered it up at night though
got a thin rain cover from 'thArgos'

October = Cover in ACF50.
March = Clean, followed by F365 during the summer.

Job done.

Would definately take a cover myself, in fact if you put a hole in the top and stick your head through, you could ride with it on all day and just slip from underneath it at night !

It is a 1200, which have been know to corrode and fall to bits as you watch

Leave it out, the rain in Scotland is so much cleaner than down here (always fresh as the stock is continually on the move).

The bike will be cleaner in the morning.

That's what I was thinking, surely putting a cover over a wet bike will do more harm than good?
