To Decat or Not to Decat that is the question

She will pop and cracking like feck on the over run.
Mine does a treat with the Beouwolf can on, luv it :D

Cats have improved but when they first came out the old Top Gear (with Quentin Wilson) ran two BL Metros around Oxford. One pre cat the other identical except it now met the new regulations. The new one used 10% more fuel and was only cleaner in terms of hydrocarbons when it was 100% warmed up. Most of the time it was no cleaner than the old spec car.

Obviously cats and control systems have improved since then but i cant help thinking that vehicle makers could do a lot better, but instead they keep just within the rules.

Just make sure you re-calibrate the fuelling by one of the many and oft-repeated methods contained in these hallow pages, and cancel your membership of the weekly Greeny Lesbian tree hugger's club :thumb

Ok I have the de catted down pipes and silencer. Fitting no problem, however what's this recalibrating the fuelling? Is that a re map or something to do on the bike? Or am I just being a numpty?

Don't need an answer on the numpty question thanks )

The engine ECU will cope with headers and exhaust can, but if you also fit a free flow air filter it wont be able to get the fuelling correct.

My engine is happy with a full Ti system from Akraprovic evidenced by all spark plugs being a healthy colour. The plugs looked fine with the open cans but it was LOUD so (to avoid unwanted blue light attention) now has some dB killers that will have increased the back pressure a bit.

However the standard ECU map runs weak so a remap will benefit the engine and give more power without affecting economy (unless you use all that smooth power ;)).

Lots of info about that on this forum. :)

As above and the bike copes no problem. However, as bendy Toy says it likes to run a little lean so will benefit from better fuelling.

The remap has excellent results but I've gone the Power Commander route and it made a massive difference. I had it Dyno'd to my specific needs and it pulls strongly a smoothly from low revs and is an absolute joy to ride. My 90k GSA now has the same torque curve as a TC. The fuel consumption is a lot better as well which helps:thumb2

There is a PC111 on the FS&W section at the moment and you could just plug in and feel the improvement to the fuelling straight away. I would suggest a Dyno session as well to get it spot on. It's well worth the time and effort:thumby:

How much better is your fuel consumption Sgt Bilco with the PCIII and the mapping work?
