Second set of rear pads , first set worn out at 800 miles .
Second set after 250 miles show wear of 0.75mm , so this would in effect be worn out at the 600 to 800 mile range again.
The first set was worn during run in , the second set have now been used harder (post run in) but still in cold damp/wet conditions, thank god its not hot lol.
Rear disc shows scores and marks
My bike and my mates have the same issue , bought 2 weeks apart , same spec.
BMW are requesting both bikes back for testing and strip down of the brakes to check a list from Germany .
Its a bit odd , not a show stopper as its 2mins to change the pads but bugger me that's hard wear and not correct.

Shit happens. You wont have to pay and it will no doubt get sorted.
No abuse from me.

I'm not one of the"Beta Haters" But what would you do on a long ride? take a spare set of pads and change them at a petrol stop? I'd be digging my heals in with BMW on that one. If it's still like that for the forthcoming GSA then it could mean a brake pad change every second fill up.

For example; I'm doing the RBLR 1000 in June, I wouldn't want to be having to change brake pads part way around.

1st gen Servo ABS could have a set of rear pads killed in under 5000 miles

AS long as YOU are not inconvienienced

i.e. they pick up and leave you a "Decent" loan bike!

Good Luck and Otherwise

IS it a good bike to ride?

At this point I have bought 5 sets and have them in my bag and set an alarm for 600 miles lol... It will get sorted .
If they mention riding style I will punch them in the face as its on 2 bikes ... Hope not as dont like the nick.

No loan bike as not been offered and also unless it was a 1300 I am not interested , but I doubt they would have 2 bikes to loan . Just need it sorted as our bikes are used a pleasure only not for A to B . I have other bikes to use if need be.
Is it a good bike to ride .. Oh yes its awesome , better that my last 1250 and better than the Multi V4 , its so much fun , it just wheelies everywhere and the suspension is class, and adjustable to fine tune. All together a great package.

My 5000 mile Norway trip in summer is going to be interesting. I’ll be good at changing pads by then……..
We are also going to Norway at the end of June,I'll be fucked if I'm expected to change my pads while on Tour ! God I wish I'd kept my 1250 until next year.

Some small evidence of blueing on the disk rotor as well indicating quite a bit of heat being generated. Was there any evidence of this after a ride? Hope this gets sorted ASAP for you.

I know it's a relatively quick job, but I bet becomes a ball ache by the 8th time.

I don't think I've changed 8 sets on a bike in almost 50 years of riding 😲 Less than twice on the back.

That’s crazy. Before I handed mine back I did notice the rear rotor was particularly hot, but just assumed I’d be unknowingly leaning on the rear brake lever while filtering.

Presumably linked brakes ? (with the bias needing an engineering solution quickly, like an orifice/restrictor fitting in the brake line)

Had the same with a 1200 GSA I had. Apparently BMW fitted organic pads in the rear. Switched to sintered and normal service resumed.

There's got yo be a serious issue here,I did 20,000 miles on my 1250 before I sold it and that included 2 Alps trips which involved some heavy breaking !

To be fair, the pads don't look that thick when they're new.

Probably to cut more weight :hide

Whilst beta testing my 2014 model R1200GSA LC (aka The Turd) for BMW it was one of the issues it had , rear pads were down on limit at first service and again when it was in for warranty work at 1400 miles and again at 2100 miles, they couldn't blame me as the dealer did the mileage from 750 miles to over 1400 miles whilst beta testing my bike whilst it was fitted with Telemetric recording equipment beaming data back to the factory as to why the ESA was sh*t and didn't work, and why the gearbox was crap and why the GSAP wouldn't function correctly and why the switchgear kept on failing plus a few other issues.

BUT at least thankfully the engine paint didn't fall off mine.

Sure the issue with the rear pads was finally pinned down to an issue with the electronic stability control being overly sensitive and constantly applying the rear brake

Stick...Are those rear pads the same as on the 1250??? They look the same!

Do you think it could be an issue with the hill hold not releasing as it should? - This is obviously assuming it works on the rear brake...

No different , not by much , but you would need to get a file and reproduce the new shape from the old , not hard and did think about it , but as it’s a new bike I would rather wait to see what Germany say. Pukmeister sorry accidentally quoted your post .
