To Short for GS??

5' 8 ish (ahem), 30" inside leg, and normally I keep the bike upright unless I'm offroad and have just had an 70mph crash a half hour before hand. :rolleyes:
 
I was 6ft 9in with 24in inside leg, I got teased at school so much I had an inside leg transplant and 10in taken out of my neck.
 
Seems you lot are lanky barstewards.
5' 4'' with a 28 incher !!!
Couldn't give a toss about getting me feet on the deck.
Although it is interesting watching car drivers and passengers
pointing at my 'length' while waiting at red lights.....jealous.
Right big toe will do for me. If it goes over....it feckin' goes over.

Now what about man handeling that high centre of gravity when you only weigh in at 150 lbs :mmmm

Before worrying too much about the seat, play with the suspension settings a bit. I found the suspension makes more of a difference than the seat height. set suspension to just above the 'soft' setting (the lighter blokes can get away with this), std seat on low rung, both feet almost flat on the floor with riding boots. This is fine for town driving and then jack up the suspension for 2-up or longer laden / heavy off road stuff to prevent bottoming out.

I've never found the center of gravity a problem while on the move. When doing tight maneuvering, just stand up and the center of gravity drops to the foot pegs (or there abouts) and the bike is a doddle to balance.

The bars are wide which makes a huge difference to handling the bike when stood at the side of it. Assuming that your Canadian pounds are still the old Imperial ones, a weight of 11 stones and height of 5'9" should have no problem with a 1200GS. But like the rest of us you might have a minor difficulty in geeting your leg over the bike with the RHS pannier fully extended. If so, either stand on a peg to do it, or do the Russian style goose step (approaching from the side with right leg horizontal!). Very elegant! :eek:

You'll be fine, just get on and ride it! Stop worrying.

I did, however, try the R1200GSA that I'd had on order (deposit paid and all) since August last year. That was just too big and too unwieldy for me. I really struggled with it. There's a huge difference in manageability between the 1200GS and 1200GSA for a short-legged rotund middle-aged GP like me.

And about that comment about funny tape measures, I've never measured my inside leg but just use Marks & Spencers trousers that fit as a guide.

Maybe I shouldn't have admitted to that.

Being a bit on the short side (5.5), lacking in upper body strength and being female (127 lbs) isn’t ideal when riding a big bike like the GS, but it’s no problem either. In some ways I have to be a bit more careful, concentrate harder, put in a little more effort, but as soon as the bike is rolling, none of it has any impact on how the bike handles. In fact there are some minor advantages like the stock wind screen being a perfect match, and the stock low seat being very comfortable.
 
Height challenged GS ers

My first post on this site. I recently purchased the LOW seat from Sargent and I can almost place both feet flat on the ground (now). Plus, the seat is almost as comfortable as stock-LOL.

I have a 31 inch inseam and I found the stock seat to be challenging when the bike is on uneven ground.

Just had the TT low seat delivered yesterday as I found the BMW low seat still a bit of a stretch at first. Having now rode the bike for about 4 weeks however the std low seat seems more managable - prob more confidence plus suspension settling a bit.
I'm off to Ireland on the ferry tomorrow so I will use the new TT seat and see how it goes. Prob be up for sale next week!

PLse can you help - I presently have a gs 650, which I think has got the lower seat - judging from the fact that it's lower than my mates & my arse aches!
Eventually I would like to think about getting something bigger - my concern is size - Male 5 foot 2, inside leg 28.5, weight 10 stone. How does that compare with you & what bike have you got?
Really hope you can help.
 
get the new 1200 adventure it's a sort of cross between Citroen, BMW pimp daddy low rider hybrid thing with jack up and down shockers:thumb2

they got one a Vines their not suppose to show it to anyone but it was parked outside the other day:thumb2
