If you want a bike to mostly chew up the miles on road in relative comfort, two up (you know, the tour Europe /Alps type trip) as well as the ability to go off road then I think I would 'just' go for the WBM but even then it'd be a close thing.
If you are looking for a more practicle 'real world' bike that will cope with big miles and be good off road, reliable, cheap to run and tough then, for me, it's a no brainer - the Yam gets it.
Finish would not be an issue for me on a bike that's gonna be 'used and abused' (and MM makes a good point above), especially with a £2.5k saving - that'd pay for an awful lot of decent kit and/or trips.
I think, if it were me, I'd get something (anything) cheap now to tide myself over 'till the Spring and then get a low mileage 2nd hand 'Ten' - they are cheap enough now so, when somebody else has taken the initial 'hit' they are gonna be real bargains

Buy the Tenere and with the saving, buy lot`s of breakdown recovery and the biggest feckin chain you can find because you`ll either find a bizarre way of breaking it or it will get knicked.......

I like the look of the Tenere, but with all things new they do lose a lot of money.
Why not consider a gs1100, brill bike good quality, reliable, robust, and you can get loads of info off this site for free,. Would'nt mind triying one though, but i would miss my 1100.

I reckon you need a twin: I've heard the torture you inflicted on that poor DRZ400 when you were behind me down Devil's Bridge way....
650/660 singles are fine if you ride by yourself - you'll not want for more.
It's when you're in the company of other bikes with more ccs or cylinders that they are wanting...
Disclaimer: I had an F650GS for 25k and thoroughly enjoyed it, but with the above reservations.
