I have had my Zumo 660 for a few years now,and am thinking of upgrading the maps etc. Any special advice/warnings etc.

Many thanks

Moses

not really - just make sure when you get to the screen with "options" or some-such on the bottom left hand corner, got into it and select "computer and GPS unit" (not exact text) or you'll end up with different versions on your Zumo and in Mapsource.

cheers

Buy a nuMaps Lifetime card from Handtec or Pentagon GPS for about £50. The card has a code that you enter into your myGarmin account to add Lifetime mapping updates to your chosen registered GPS. Updates are approximately every 4 months. A few days wait for the card but about £25 less than buying from Garmin.

City Nav Europe 2012.40 won't fit onto your 660 without some prep work. Delete all unused voices from //Garmin/Voices/ leaving just the British ones. If you have a file named GMAPSUPP.IMG in the //Garmin/ folder move that to the SD card into a folder of the same name.

The online update, by default, will install to your GPS only. To install the mapping to your PC for use in Mapsource or Basecamp look out for a button entitled, ISTR, 'Install Options' on the fourth or fifth screen of the update process. Select GPS and PC.

Once you've installed the update move the following files from the internal memory on the GPS to the same location on the SD card. This frees up some memory:

Internal - //Garmin/GMAP3D.IMG & //Garmin/GMAP3D.SUM

Move to SD card - //Garmin/GMAP3D.IMG & //Garmin/GMAP3D.SUM

Apparently there is a new Web Updater out soon, maybe available already, that allows a mapping install to the SD card (either entirely or in part, not sure, haven't used it yet).

I bought the numaps lifetime from garmin. It seems to work fine. Takes several hours to download via my broadband, but I just leave it on overnight. There are still non-existent petrol stations etc on the most up to date version, but I like to think I have the latest info.
