hiya all, having been toying with the idea of having me new gs lc venturshield protected, but Im wondering whether its actually worth it, had me rt protected but that has got a lot of fairing panels obviously, but th gs I just don't know:confused:, I was just wondering how the panels etc were holding up for wear and tear, stonechips etc. for other people that have had an lc for the last twelve months etc., bodywork seem pretty resilient to stonechips etc., or is it soft as cheese:blast, and showing the marks rapidly:eek:???

cheers in advance

Dont bother .waste of money. Ive sold and traded plenty of bikes and a few chips and scrapes make no difference to the selling price. First thing i did when i bought my hp sport was to remove it. It had yellowed and looked crap.

It had yellowed and looked crap.

3m stuff will never yellow, there is other similar stuff on the market that tries to replicate 3m venturshield, its slightly thicker and that film does yellow.

Ill confess I'm a venturshield nerd, i love the stuff ive done my wc not just the plastics but all the areas that will get marked or chipped ie forks, final drive housing cylinder covers, frame in places, headlight, speedo screen, I'm a bit OCD, I've wrapped helmets, hundreds of bikes, phones, fork legs, carbon items, some bits on some exotic cars.

I was heading home from the alps when a vehicle in front flicked something up from its wheels, it hit my bike fairing (yamaha) with a good whack, on inspection it had only rubbed the venturshield thro and not touched the paint, i expected it to be a lot worse .

I'd use it around the swing arm, and rear wheel, but only have it on my forks. Panels can be painted, so I wouldn't bother on those. If you change bikes every 5 minutes like I do, then don't bother.:thumb

some fare points there lads:thumby:, but to the peeps that have no protection on there gs lc painted plastics ie beak, tank panels etc., how are they holding up so far????, areas like the front beak to me, look as if there just screaming out to attract all the stone chips, is this the case????, I didn't seem to pick up that many chips if im honest on me gsa when I had it, that wasn't protected, but obviously they do have the beak cover/extender so that took a lot of it.

I didn't have one chip on my last bike, after 7500 miles. I have ONE chip on the plastics on this one, but can touch that in very easily. Weigh it up.:thumb

Just make a decision on your own; it's not open heart surgery, is it.

wapping, if you would of read the piece you've actually quoted me on, instead of doing your usual:blast you would see im not after a decision, I would merely like someone to answer the question of whether I am correct in my thinking that the beak area on the new gs lc is a magnet for stone chips??, or not as the case may be???:thumby:

ye that's what im thinking if im honest, I aint the type to ever neglect a bike(or anything I own to be honest), and I wash and polish regularly, so to be honest I don't think im gonna bother, Ive clear vinyled the forks, frame etc., all areas that I know will definatly mark at some stage, and as has already been said, plastics you can paint, so that's not an issue, so cheers for the input lads:thumby:

Your entire thread is whether you should stick some clear plastic 3M paint guard on your motorcycle. You are agonising over it, gauging opinion, weighing up the pro's and cons.

Stick it on. If it works, it works. If it doesn't it doesn't but you'd have got the stone chip anyway.
