Bought a set of Mk1 Tobinators from a member of the forum here and fitted them last week. Just taken a blast on our 'private test track' and at 100mph it's amazingly still behind the screen. None of the bouncing around and buffeting I've suffered till now.

I'm on a standard r1150gs with standard screen, set the Tobi's at the basic start setting and they're fabulous. Going to tweak them a bit and see what difference some changes will make but wow, it's like riding a different bike.

£30 completely changed how easy it is to ride at higher speeds.
 
Got to say I agree. Have tried an MRA and have to say that I found the standard screen on torbs at the lowest angle possible to give a better ride.

I have got a ztechnik on loan today and just waiting for it to warm up before testing....will let you know how I get on. For the record I am 6ft with a Schuberth....

What setting did you have your screen on...would be good if we could get a pic.

Errrr both:) I'm using tobinators and the lower half of an MRA screen. Works really well and I've always got the option of fitting the top half of the MRA for longer trips:thumb

I put some tobinators on my 1150 a few weeks ago. Made a world of difference :thumb.
 
i wouldn't be without them... makes 80mph cruising a doddle... i love em....
 
I have Tobi's and tried them on a standard screen and MRA vario. MRA is better screen but whilst I can get rid of the wind blast I can't seem to get rid of the noise. Tried various Tobi settings ... TNA.
Maybe I will try again.
 
I don't get much buffeting at 80-85mph. I'm 5'9" and have some kind of higher screen though, so that might account for it :D
 
I'll post a picture and the position details in a couple of days when I have time to pull the bike out of the garage, going to be quite busy with work Mon/Tue but will do my best.

Useful to know what height you are.
I'm 6'4" and bought an aero-flow, but have'nt seen any improvment. Perhaps I need to play with it a bit for adjustment (no time as yet) so will see. Buffeting and noise spoils a ride. (Arai and ear-plugs by the way).
If tobi's are the way to go, then might have to give them a try.:confused:
 
I'm 6'8"... my tobis are set Highest and Furthest forward..... screen looks a little "upright" but no buffeting.....fannytastic
 
Does this confirm my general suspicion that it's the taller folk who really suffer buffeting?
 
I'm 5'10" and wearing a bmw system 6. Noise is reasonable with this helmet but the buffeting on the motorway was miserable. Toby's have stopped that.

Will get a photo up asap of how mine are set.

But I'm only just 6' ,when I stand up straight, and my standard 1150 ADV screen is doing my head in (sic) after just four weeks. The bike did come with a lower seat.
I'm looking for a solution to this problem and with great interest here, and am considering Tobinators.

Just broken the hinges of the aero-flow, trying to adjust it too far.:mad:
No sign of anyone on ebay, so can't get new hinges so...................
where do we get these tobi's from?:augie
 
Right, here goes after two weekends extensive research with a standard 1150 1 - GS screen, 2 - Screen with torbinators, 3- MRA, 4- MRA with torb, 5- MRA with torbs and half screen, 6- borrowed Ztechnic screen.

I am 6ft with a Scuberth Pro 1

1- Rubbish at all speeds and all angles - buffeting at 80mph had me seeing double

2- In the full back position (where I cut back the front mounting lobes as per instructions - no buffeting at any speed but high wind noise over 60 but much preferable to 1 - Similar to the no screen option but with less pressure on the body

3 - MRA - best over all position I found was mid setting for angle with the upper screen at 2/3rds hight. buffeting much improved over standard GS above 70 BUT very noisy...more so than standard screen with torbs. Any other angle, especially upright increased buffeting similar to standard screen. On the settings outlined above below 50 very quiet. Would also say MRA disappointed in that is does flex more than the standard screen and is made of thinner plastic.

4 - MRA with torbs with front arms verticle and rear set down to give a flatter angle with screen at same angle as 3 above but lifted off the nose cone. No buffeting to 90 and quietest so far to 80 but noisier at low speeds than 3 but more than bearable. BUT screen flexed allot and flapped about all over the place.

5 - Best was as above, no buffeting but wind blast in the chest was noticable and got colder quicker, as expected less flapping about.

6 - This is the tall screen - Best overall by far on the rear most setting. No buffeting below 90. Visor up to 60, lowest noise by far to 80.


So upshot for me....Ztechnic is the best option BUT costs about £140 OR Torbinators on standard screen as I don't think the MRA gives you enough to justify the price.


I have a virtually unused (and unmarked) MRA for £75 plus P&P if any body want's it (and yes I know this should be in a different section...it will be shortly) I am off to buy a ztechnic....better quality as well....and no I don't work for them.

As per requests, here's some photos of my tobinator/screen setup. Note that these are the older tobinators that don't have adjustable front mounts, just the rear mounts. I currently have them set as far down at the back as possible, I'm going to raise the back gradually and see what effect that has.

I'm 5'11, wear a bmw system 6 and this has stopped all the buffeting so far.
