has anyone used tobinators with a GSA screen?
do you really gain height? it looks to me as though the height is detemined by the side adjusters so that using tobinators would give more tilt (rake) but no more height.
there doesn't seem to be much info on Nippy Normans site for tobinators with the GSA screen,so any experiences would be appreciated.

Tobinators work against the buffeting you may experience on the GS(A), rather than increasing the height of the screen (tho' depending on how you position them , they can increase the screen height by 2-3cm). The buffeting is caused by pockets of air building up between the back of the screen and the dash and then releasing periodically (every few milliseconds, I guess) hence the pulsating effect that you experience. The tobinators increase the airflow under the screen and as a result the pocket of air doesnt build-up... QED. Well worth the expense IMHO (1150GSA).

tobinators or not

hi,have tried tobinators on o8 gsa ,i'm 6'2" and they reduce the height when i fitted them and i also got buffeting (even wth these fitted !)didn't do much for me removed them and fitted an add on tourtech deflector to make the screen higher and used it for a while now and it helps so i use that and no tobinators to get the max screen height i can get.:)

tobinators plus gsa screen on my 1100gs,sorted:thumb plenty of adjustment. im 6foot,std seat.less tiresome on motorways too!:bounce1

If you fit them pointing straight up, the screen height on an Adventure will be raised over the normal height simply because the bottom bolts use the screen mounts on the bike & the top ones go in the holes on the screen where they would normally go on the bike.

Blurb from Wunderlich site......... (opens a pdf file, look at page 8 if you want to see more)

You will need to have a substantial play with the settings to suit you tho, sometimes a fraction makes a major difference. Remember it's the airflow you're trying to sort, if you just want a higher screen there's plenty out there.

I was assuming he had the 1150adv, didn't think you needed any tobinators on the 1200adv :nenau

tobinators

thanks to all who replied.
I posted this before going over for the Schotten grand prix and promptly forgot all about it.
Sorreeeeee.........you will deduce that I am a forum virgin.

I'm Blown Away!

I've read this thread with some interest, particularly as I have been planning to swap my 07 GS for an 08 GSA in order to get the 'advantage' of the bigger screen (and no buffeting) plus I wanted the twin head/fog lights that are on the GSA.
I considered just putting a GSA screen onto my GS but at a cost of £550 I thought it would make more sense to just get the whole bike! Especially as I was told that I couldnt fit the lights to my GS anyway (I dont know the reason why - something to do with the power supply I think). Also the GSA does have a smoother engine and gearbox.
I have read that Tobinators are a waste of time as, allegedly, so are those extensions that clip onto the top of the screen, hence my decision to go for the GSA screen in the first place.
Anyway, from what has been written above it would appear that even the GSA screen doesnt deliver buffet free riding. But, what about Winglets - lets not forget the winglets, or are you forgetting them? Perhaps they are the real answer and not just the screen on its own?

MRA

I have a MRA screen fitted to my 1150gsa and its great, cured my buffeting probs,It is multi adjustable and takes a bit of setting up but its worth the hassle.Looks the dogs too.....

I fitted the GSA screen to my 2008 GS including winglets and it's a big improvement; the total cost was just over £300 and was money well spent. I had tried tobinators before on the standard screen but they did nothing for me. Out of interest, I tried them on the GSA screen and they seem to stress the screen except at high setting which rakes the screen back too low for me. Incidentally, when I had questions about fitting, Nippy Norman was very polite but couldn't answer my question; an email to [email protected] didn't receive a reply. I keep meaning to put the tobinators on eBay...

Well I am well confused. I have just bought a new Arai Tour x 3. Great helmet, but I do get buffeting with it. I also have an Arai Viper Banda. No buffeting..... I assume this is then the helmet not the screen. Will tobinators make a difference to the Tour x £?????

Tobinators

Fitted them to my 1200 GSA screen, they altered the pitch of the screen forcing it backwards at a sharp angle. The higher the screen the sharper the angle. Then found that the screen fowled the mirrors when moving towards full lock. Guess what is now for sale?
