Today I have been mostly exploring byways

RUPP010 is N51 25.652 W1 11.271
RUPP009 is N51 26.306 W1 11.802

After riding through a farm yard, you get to some very deep ruts - quite wide though.

After going through a couple of shut but unlocked gates you get to another ford across the River Pang - approx 6 yards wide and 9 inches deep.

(In fact the Pang seems a consistently firm gravel base around this depth - I wonder if you could hang a left and ride up the river to the next ford ?)

RUPP011 is N51 26.427 W1 11.175
RUPP013 is N51 27.041 W1 12.424

This one leads through another Farm Yard - the actual RUPP goes through their garden I think, so they ask if people follow a small detour around some barns and started like this.

But shortly became this.

I didn't risk going any further on my own (need some assistance on this one chaps :), so decided to try and find the other end and see how far I could get that way.

The other end runs through an area where they are felling trees so is fairly firm if cut up a bit by lorries - eventually leads to a steep hill downwards which I didn't like the look of in case I couldn't get back. The tracking shows I got quite close to where I abandoned the other end. The photo is of one of the nicer parts.

BW123 is N51 27.231 W1 12.361
BW124 is N51 27.412 W1 12.638

Basically a driveway from a pub past several houses - not very interesting.

RUPP014 is N51 27.885 W1 10.887
RUPP015 is N51 28.156 W1 10.444

A very nice, if short, track through a wood - starting to get dark about now.

RUPP018 is N51 28.037 W1 10.161
RUPP019 is N51 28.089 W1 09.427

A great, though confusing, track through the woods - at one stage I took a wrong turn and ended up on a Bridleway onto someones private road. Getting darker so not the best photo :(

Thought I might have enough light for a final track

RUPP020 is N51 28.505 W1 09.493
and comes out at BW118 N51 28.635 W1 08.628

Not very well shown, but a steep climb to start with into a wood. Fairly good track to start with...

then started to get large dips filled with mud - got through a couple, but it got darker, so as I could see the best part of feck all, I decided to call it a day and return to this one another time.
This is after turning around, I should have left the headlight pointing the other way :D

Excellent stuff!

Can I suggest, if you are a member of the TRF or GLASS, that you enter user reports on those lanes on Wayfinder - http://www.way-finder.org.uk/ I actually drove the lanes on Ashampstead Common and Burnt Hill in my Discovery a few months back, so I recognise them. I also know exactly where you ended up crossing the end of that gravel driveway and ending up on that private track...

While you are in that part of the world, can I commend RUPP (Ashamsptead) 30 to you? It's a big, long, up and down effort, with one nasty boggy bit, and a loop you can follow on other RUPPS that joins back up with it. See http://www.way-finder.co.uk/?uid=SU5676-8a for more detail, or see SU565767 on an OS map for the southern end.

May be best attempted with two of you :-)

Absolutely bl*********dy brilliant Clive!

Are you planning on exploring closer to my area (Oxford, Bicester, Kidlington, Thame)... ?

I'm itchin' to ride a dirty one... ;)

I can't find a single Byway on the Oxford side of Explorer 180 :(

Ken, many thanks for that one - I'll check it out at some point, and report back :)

Thanks again!
