Well, today is the day I go and talk turkey to the Dealers. I got my big wad of cash and the blessings of SWMBO.

I am strongly leaning toward a 1200GS.

I hate to admit it, but part of me wants a Harley. SWMBO had wanted me to get one until last week. She had seen a Honda cafe racer and a new Harley stopped at an intersection side-by-side. She could not believe how much the Harley was shaking, compared to the Honda that was not. (It was a stock cam.). Now she is all for a BMW.

Harley or BMW ?

After having ridden a Harley (Agricultural Machinery springs to mind, although the V-Rod and Street Rod are suposed to be much better) I would definitely opt for the BMW !
I bought a 1200GS a couple of weeks ago and its a great bike.

Had a dyna wide glide for two years. Loved it to bits, but never really got on with the image. Never saw winter, couldn't bear the thought of all that salt. But stood up well to use in the rain etc. Wife loved the vibes:blush!!

Now got the 1200gs. Need all year round transport.
I would like another harley I would just have to get used to tassles and bolt on chrome bits:barf

I had a Fat Boy for a couple of years. I hated the fact that Harley culture is all about tattoos, beards and leathers.

Reality is the Harley is a tractor all noise, show and no go.

Harley has now gone as has the CBR600, now have the R1200GS, a real bike.

If you don't get the BMW this time, you will, if you really enjoy your riding.

Had a Dyna Wide Glide...
Loved riding it. Used it all the time. Daren't leave it anywhere.
It attracted so much attention.
Wife loved it. Loved going to all the Harley meets.
However, I had another run around too.
I wanted something I could just press the button and go where ever I wanted and carry luggage if need be. Leave it in a bike bay and not worry too much. I do miss the HD, but the GS does alot more and you don't have to check the shipping forecast before applying the brakes. (or maybe you do according to servo probs mentioned by some!)
Yep, the GS does it all, but theres nothing like riding a Harley.

Confused? Well so am I, 'cos I miss my HD now :-(

Had a Road King followed by a Heritage, still miss the bikes - got a 12 now, but after my next planned jaunt I may be hankering after another one.

Had a Road King followed by a Heritage,

I was looking at a getting a black Road King, I think it is a pretty cool bike.... ...but I am going to Vancouver Island on this Tuesday to pick-up a 1200GS. :D Still, I wish I could get the Harley too, but SWMBO would freak out.

North, I don't believe what I'm hearing. Sit down with a drink of choice and relax. The Harley was just a bad dream. A nightmare. But you're O.K. now. Aren't you? Just one of those moments of passing madness.
Beware though, get the Harley and it'll turn in to a recurring nightmare. You wife will divorce you because her arse will be so sore she won't be able to sit down. You'll go out for a ride and nobody will talk to you because you'll look like a left over from and by-gone American era. And your life will become increasingly miserable as you realize how close to happiness you once were.
Harley's are just a 'bad ass' image('Sore Ass' would be more like it).
Get a life geeza!

Well Sean,

I know you are right...but I was just kidnapped by three woman in tight leather...:P They were making me get a harley. ;)
Thank God I got away. :angel

I get my 1200GS in two days and really looking forward to it. I want I great bike to ride and one to explore all the logging roads and hot springs we have out here in BC. The 1200 is going to be a rush!

Hey, you can't get a better bike than a BMW. I am going to have the coolest bike in town.

in the early eighties, before HD riders were all accountants, bankers and I.T. workers, i owned a Sturgis - Big black and scary, and extremely unreliable. But what fun to ride -

then they become reliable and fashion accessories -

Choose an H-D over a GS ????

Have I been missing something ?

Glad you saw sense North. Although you've started an interesting thread here. They all seem to be crawling out of the wood work now!
It's easy to understand how three woman in leather trousers can blur your vision though.
Enjoy!
