Spent about 20 mins or so thismorning making a radiator guard. Will do as a bodge protection method till I can afford something a little more sustainable

2 cable ties, duct tape and some mesh was all it took, not bad considering its what I had lying about in the garage!

Worst part fitting it was scraping out all the old bugsplat from the radiator, and bending back a few bent radiator fins. Its amazing how much crap and damage can be there after just 2 weeks and 1200 miles! Shame they don't fit a grille as standard really...

No black paint hence it being a bit chav! Will get a proper touratech black one next month when I get a bit of cash

I wouldn't bother Paul as that looks like it will do the job just fine

Did the mesh come from B&Q? I see that they sell it in different colours/patterns for much cheapness

Yeah was from b&q, had it originally for securing my starcom inside my tankbag for the old bike, but now that's all fitted under the seat on the gs I had it going spare. Think I originally got a sheet which was about a4 size, only cost a few quid

Leave it silver as a black one will look crap once the paint comes off with time.

I paid a fortune for a Wunderlich guard for my old 1200GS which was little more than the same mesh as you've used sandwiched in a metal frame and all held together with silicone sealant. I was well peeved when it started to fall apart

Can I ask the question, has anybody heard of a radiator being damaged on a GS?

I havent read anything here, but there seems to be a fair bit of dosh spent on these things...

With only 1k miles on my new bike, there was already quite a few dinged fins from impact damage (stones, big-ass flys, etc) and with winter knocking on our doors now, soon to be gravel and all sorts of other shit kicked up into it.

My old bandit sprung a leak from when a stone chip smacked into it, only a wheep, but enough to warrant replacing it, and that had no guard.

Guard cost me about a fiver to make, hell of alot cheaper than whatever a radiator would cost that I do know!
