Having read all the horror stories about getting stranded due to failure of either Fuel Pump Controller or Ring Antenna I took the plunge today and bought a spare of each from Motorrad East in Dalkeith. Why was I not surprised that both items were in stock?

FPC No. C16 14 7 720 776 for £58.76
Antenna No. C61 35 7 705 247 for £38.80

Was getting paranoid about being stranded inconveniently so I will now fit FPC at my leisure and carry Antenna for future use. Seems Antenna is tricky to change with screws needing drilled out so I guess not a roadside job. Just lash the new alongside the old. :)

Last year the ring antenna was £86 odd, and clearly that version was not up to scratch!
You only need the antenna connected for power on and starting I believe, it can be disconnected after that.

Carry the plastic wallet key, a small torx screw tool and some tape. If it fails, unscrew the security shroud, pull out the multiplug, wire it into the new antenna and tape it to the handlebars with the plastic wallet key inside it.

Start the bike with your existing metal key and ride home.......

Why change the FPC until it fails. Again, just carry a small torx tool to undo it should it break. If/when it does break, remember to cut off the blue wiring connector from the failed unit to make up a 'get you home' emergency lead.

Machine Mart sells a nice little right angled tool with security torx bits for about £8 if I recall correctly. Handy for working on the GS as it fits all the small fasteners.
