After several years on a Fireblade (recently stolen!) I am test riding this week the 1200GS (for the second time) and also the K1200R. I am not sure I feel ready for the full on GS experience but on the other hand I am told there is a 4+ month wait for the R - has anyone else had a go on the R yet - what should I expect? Any info which will help me choose will be gratefully accepted!

Not yet - but be sure to let us know what you think. I really fancy one.

I've not ridden the K1200R, but I have ridden the S version. Expect to get off the bike with a huge grin plastered across your face:D

I spent a couple of hours on Thursday morning in the Surrey countryside riding first the K1200R and then the R1200GS.
The R is phenomenal – really powerful and smooth delivery all the way, comfortable, and with the ESA handles brilliantly. Switching from Normal to Sport makes a real difference on winding roads when you have a bit of speed up. Gearbox a little clunky but this was a fairly new bike. It is slim and manoeuvrable and very fast.
The GS we all know about – terrific bike, great handling – but for me not as good as the R. But they are very very different bikes, and I think the jump which I am taking from Fireblade to R is not as great as to the GS.
No surprises then – I have ordered an R.
Thanks to Mike at Vines for an excellent morning and excellent service.
