Hi All,

I switched on my TT Rider yestereday and the battery/charging icon was showing that it was running low. I was in the car so via a USB adaptor, plugged it into my car ( as that what i was using it in at the time). It appeared not to be taking any charge. Sure enough, at some stage it ran out of charge and turned itself off, so i came home and plugged it in to the mains, again via a USB charger.
Now, I cant turn the bugger on!! It is as if it has no charge whatsoever

Any ideas:confused:

Richie

Tomtom Rider doesn't get power through its USB port - that is only used for data. You have to use either the docking contacts on the back or the DC connector next to the USB port.

I also had to find this out the hard way Roymondo....Bought a used one from Ebay and they told me everything was in the box.....Tossers....:blast USB is not for charging and a dedicated charger is needed....I have an all new problem now, a bmw dealer took my TT rider v2 active dock from a Tiger 955i and put it on my GSA. it starts up when you turn the key but doesn't charge, He says he's put it to a switched live on the auxiliary socket at my requested, (switched live) but it ain't working.....any suggetsions?

 weird - a friend of ours came to visit and she mentioned her TomTom Rider was low on battery power. (she does not have the charger cradle)
Plugged it into my laptop's USB.......... and it charged happily until she left later that evening with a fully charged unit?

I'm sure many peeps are aware the cradle on tt is shit theres always issues with them braking down ie not charging I'm on my 3 rd bike one (google it) and I'm aware the urban rider you can charge via the USB, my rider 2 not sure never tried.

+1DING-DONG
On my 2nd powered cradle for an Urban Rider, I've had to araldite in the pivot pins, as they vibrated out on the orginal, then on Sunday the four threaded inserts that attach it to the Ram mounting plate failed (plastic around them fractured) and the bloody lot went bouncing down the rad at 60mph... still works though :blast.
The mounts are bloody rubbish...

Rider 2 charging.

Cradle Check with meter put on dc volts and see across pins. cant remember what ones to check but think it is the middle 2. As there are only 4 should not take much to go through permutations.

As to the battery flat. I reset the tom tom from scratch left the dc charger connected to mains and it worked after that. Not sure if it work for you but worked for me.

Hope helps

AFAIK Tomtom Rider and Rider 2 do not charge via USB, but the later Urban Rider and Rider Pro do.

Ive just had the same Tomtom rider not charging decided to have a go at replacing the battery myself all done and working again now.

It sounds like your internal battery has given up the ghost, it is an 18650 battery with a linked wire on the positive side.

Best bet is to send it here http://compu-sat.co.uk/index.html

Dont send it away for repair. Its a simple job to replace tom tom batteries. Look at the MDS battery website for a new battery, and get the little tool kit.It only costs a few quid and makes it even easier to do. If i remember , the last unit i changed a battery on was a car one and the battery cost about £12.

Same thing happened to mine, I connected it to my laptop via tom tom home and it reset itself and worked fine. I was also told by tomtom technical help "hold the on off button in for 30 secs until you here the startup noise"

tomtom fault

my dock still charges but backing plate cracked in half anybody got a knackered tomtom rider 2 charging mount , i just need the bit that the charging pivot plate sits in thanks

I've got one - I've just modified the non-charging mount for my TT Urban Rider v3 so I can open the flap for the USB port, so the kaput charging mount isn't required anymore.

But bear in mind that with the flap open, the TT won't be weatherproof.

The issue seems to be either corrosion of the four pins in the cradle or the internal 2A fuse. I read somewhere yesterday that soaking the pins with WD40 can cure the problem, so I soaked them in GT85 (similar stuff), played around with them to free them up and it's now charging again.

In a similar vein, if I purchase a new Rider V5 will it fit (and charge) in my touratech locking mount I used for my old (stolen) V2?? Neither Touratech or TomTom can give me a definitive answer..

EDIT

after a second search I found the answer two threads down - look harder next time :blast. To save anyone else the effort, it appears you can change the active dock in the Touratech mount for the new one and hey presto

Latest failed battery on my V5 Rider,

Wondered what was wrong when using my Rider last weekend, I had put it on charge via the usd plug and ac charger, thought all was ok i.e. working when on charge.

Put it on the bike and switched on when the bike as running all ok, it was not until I stopped that the unit switched off with the ignition and all destination info lost.

Battery U/S, opened up the Rider (some security torx bits required) and now ordered a new battery from Amazon -

Quality and Power - Battery for TomTom Go Rider Power-Akku - 2600mAh - 3,7V - Li-Ion , which I am now awaiting...........
