I have mounted the new 2013 TT Rider unit, connected to the same power supply as the BMW unit.

Not too happy with the Ram mounts, will look for something a little neater..

Looks , but I wonder if there's a software hack so it can work with the wheel? I much prefer Tomtom, but got a Garmin with the new bike, and I really don't like it

Touratech will do a much nicer lockable mount for that BTW.

If the Tom Tom mount uses standard mounting centres, like this

Then the standard BMW bracket will fit on the bar. It is virtually the same as fitted to the TE as standard I think

I used the BMW mount on my old 2009 GS and it looked good as it was OE equipment, unlike Touratech, Wunderlich and other aftermarket GPS brackets which looked like they'd been styled by Ray Charles' guide dog

Always intrigues me when I see people fitting Tom Toms to their BM's.

I much prefer Tom Tom & would like one on my RT but when I changed the RT 18 months ago was told by the dealer that Tom Tom is not compatible with the RT & can't be connected in a way that will see it take it's charge from the battery.

For that reason I've been stuck with the crappy Garmin that came with the st RT I bought.

I long for a Tom Tom Rider.

There is, of course, a few differences, the Winding Road selection which looks good if you do not need to get from A to B asap.

Does the back of the TomTom mount have the 'industry standard' fixing - ie those 4 fixing screws shown on the BMW mount for the Garmin? If it does, I may well replace my Garmin at some point.

what was the wiring job like?...

I am in sat nav dilemma... Ive an older Zumo 550 and its been ok but think maybe its time for upgrade,,,

Wiring was a doddle, soldered a BMW plug onto the sat nav cable and plugged straight in to the supply skt the BM mount is fed from.

TomTom does have the standard 4 screw mount on the back, this is what I've decided to use with a BMW clamp fixing..... just missed one on the for sale section

I have to get a GPS for the bike . Have tried to use my ( car ) nuvi which works ok but the screen is not bright enough in sunlight. Which make and model has the brightest screen ? I only want a satnav ,not any fancy stuff like radio,phone,bluetooth and all the other things I dont understand.

Because the Garmin is shite. I can't get used to it on my LC. You can't zoom in as much as the TomTom, which IMO makes it rubbish in comparison. And the menus and user interface, compared with the TomTom, are crap

The Nutty GSER Nuttt can you define Garmin shite as in how it GOYT.

I have suffered miss routeing despite all the riding party using the same Garmin 660 and same downloaded routes. Often will freeze at the key moment on a bloody Swiss spaghetti junction with at least 25 miles to next turn off.

But very rugged, will bounce down the road and still work. Completely waterproof

If I change to TTom it needs to be better at routing plus the maps need to be better than Garmin maps which lack detail at times.

I've been using TYRE for years and it uses google maps for route planning, all very easy.
I have no experience of garmin route planning tools but there is a lot of flak on this forum about mapsource etc......

mAPSOURCE is not user friendly but its flexible. I sometimes use TYRE and it will convert routes to Garmin or TT . It is good. Almost user friendly!!!

I guess my interest ids how the TT performs at routing more than anything else. Plus is the visual easier to interpret than Garmin.

Me too, but the TT powered cradles are crap and the new one looks to use the same cradle The first one lasted about two years, the current one about 3 months

Bought the Urban Rider last year,have never had a problem with the cradle,I
had problmes with the first Rider,took the cradle apart and found out what to do to avoid problems on the new cradle.
You have to spray the contact pins with CrC or similar (w40) try to get some of the stuff into the pinholes let i soak,for a few minuts befor you wipe it clean.
The reason for doing this is the small springs that put pressure on the pins
