Hi lads,

just got my ttr2 wired up to my bike today.

spoken to a couple of lads who have these already and they both said that the cradle will "draw" a small charge from the battery even when the tom tom is not connected to it. obviously its a small amount but over time say on a two week tour it could make all the difference to the battery.

Any way i went a bought an inline fuse and a switch, ive fitted them and placed the switch in the tool tray so i can power it off completely when not in use.

Any one else bothered with this or am i being a fanny?

I have had a tomtom for some time. How do you check if its drawing power? I very rarely leave the tomtom on the cradle if I am not on the bike. But I have had two batteries die earlier this year on my Bandit. This winter whilst its laid up its going on the Optimate. Maybe the TomTom cradle was actually drawing charge. Theres no alarm on the bike.

Surely on a 2 week tour you'll be using the bike every day, maybe running the engine, which might make the alternator work, and just possibly, that would charge the battery enough to overcome the mighty drain of the tomtom.:thumb

Had a T/T on for 18 months, and how many times has my batt given up.....NONE, what bollox!

wired TT myself on my Versys. Directly wired to the battery never had any trouble with it. I asked dealer to wire the cradle in who put switch on it so that the cradle becomes live when ignition turned on. didnt cost me anything to be honest really doesnt make much differance horses for courses really.

as soon as i connect the tom tom to the cradle its pulling current from it so thought its better safe than sorry, switch and fuse cost me £6. took maybe an hour to do.

got an alarm but its not used and its on an optimate when its in the shed

Yes on a tour you are riding your bike but id rather know it was powered off completely.

maybe ive been a bit over cautious and im guilty of being a fanny after all:eek

peace of mind is priceless:beerjug:
