Deja vu!

Having looked at the website a few times, a couple of things strike me.

I'm not at all sure that I like 3-D maps. I'm quite happy following a plan view.

Second, that holder for the device may hold it secure whilst riding, but doesn't seem to lock it at all. So this would mean dismounting it every time you get petrol, for example.

All a matter of personal taste however.

One thing is for sure - if you read the descriptions of forthcoming services on TomTom Plus, Garmin are going to be left behind.
Traffic updates, map updates, camera locations, hands free calling, Bluetooth headsets...
I'm on my 4th Garmin unit (2610) and it's great, but this new stuff is REALLY interesting.
Take a look.

Re being secure - I guess that touratech etal will prety quickly make some robust shock-capable mount. Depends on how much it is though?

TomTom software allows you to choose between 3D and 2D with two touches of the screen

And how long do you think it will be before an after market solution comes out? The Garmin doesn't secure unless you buy a third party psolution either.

TomTom has a plan view as well but it doesn't have a fixed zoom facility when you are navigating a route. As a result, it automatically zooms to show the road & junction you are on, so it's pretty tricky to zoom out to get a wider view of the map and have it stay there (it autozooms in again). Grrrr

Otherwise, cool to use and very useful for house to house navigation. No track plotting though for off road or general aimless pootling.

Anybody know what they`re charging ?

No prices for certain yet, but as it's a waterproofed TomTom Go, they'll be a bit more expensive than the Go. The Go is 440 quid at GPS Warehouse, so my first guess would be around the 550 mark. But that's a total guess.

Anybody know what their charging

Have a look at www.mytomtomgo.com some threads on there which suggest under £600, but not released til summer 2005.....unless you know different

It’s a lot less than the BMW Navigator II, it’ll sell :)

Yes , But I think you ll find that a 2610 is a better option to a BMW Navigator - as it the same except for the mount , and some nuances with the software.
The non waterproof Tom Tom I ve seen for 419.00 £-
But Garmin is still King as far as I m concerned.
Having just come back from Ce Bit - theres GPS everywhere , there are so many options using PDAs , Mobile phones the lot - I thoink that we ll have GPS in every thing in less than 3 years. A GPS receiver from a manufacturer costs less than 90£.
At least we all got somthing out of bloody starwars !!
