I have been using a TomTom Rider 550 for about 5 years no with no problems until yesterday.

The is a route I ride 2 or 3 times a year, it's a circular route around central Wales. Yesterday I activated the route but I within seconds the Rider 550 reported 'No route possible'.
After numerous attempts it sill wouldn't work so I just did the route from memory which was easy enough.

Once back home I updated everything on the device that it said needing updating, but it still wouldn't work.
The route was in my TomTom My Drive app on the iPad and in my TomTom Go app there too so I checked them and both worked fine.
I then deleted the route from the 550 and re synced it with my account and the route reappeared, but when selected it still came up with the same error 'No Route Possible'.

Has anyone else had this error?

I have never used a TomTom but, their help pages suggest:

A missing or incomplete or not loaded properly map.

A road being closed.

A setting in preferences (say, exclude motorways) and the route includes a motorway section.

What is the source of the route you have? An external GPX file? It could be that a waypoint in the route is located on a road that is now closed/temporarily closed/changed as this will cause the "no route possible"

There have been some serious roadworks in Wales in the no so distant past. I can’t say as haven’t been to Wales in 2-3 years.
I am not sure if any of the road layouts have changed since Paul has been there before.
Your suggestion seem appropriate with regard to waypoint positioning on a now (possibly) realigned road(s).
Maybe a review of the route and adding more waypoints needed.

If a road is closed would it not prompt or automatically re-route though?

The route was created in the TomTom MyDrive app a few years ago.

If the whole route is now failing due to just one road closure somewhere along it then that is bad programming by TomTom.

You tell them Paul.

It's working now.

I have multiple maps installed on my device:-
Africa
Morocco
Europe
U.K. & Republic of Ireland... all maps are up to date.

Yesterday I had the Europe, which includes the U.K map selected, this clearly doesn't like the route.

Just now by selecting the U.K. & Republic of Ireland map the route now works fine, so all is good once again.

Seems a bit odd as the route is selectable with the Europe map set selected which suggests it should work but clearly not.

I remember early on when I had TomTom as an app on my Ipaq that the Europe map wasn’t as detailed as the individual country level maps - didn’t have minor b roads etc - ended up diverting for miles around roadworks that I could have followed the signs and gone through a small back round - I still here about it from my wife of “sat nav’s aren’t always right … remember that time you cost us hours because you wouldn’t follow the signs” - thanks tomtom🤣

TomTom is pretty old and the 550 looks ancient. Though I use their route planner, which I think is great.
Email the GPX to me and load on the Zumo. I like the route planner.

I’ve had the ‘no route possible’ come up recently whilst touring in Greece.
It transpired that my road preference settings had an ‘x’ against unmade roads, so wouldn’t take me down a small 100 metre section of perfectly navigable but untarmac’d road on a well-laden RT, so I changed the setting and all OK.

The janitor has mended it.

Closed, before we go too far into “I remember when….”
