The new product is in 2 forms:

Urban Rider or Urban Rider pro.

Both will have 6hr battery, lane guidance, new simplified menu system and more to be announced.

I for one am excited, cant wait to have a play and maybe part with some pennies. :thumb2

Looks like the Urban Rider pro will be supplied with a headset and the Urban Rider wont.

No official info has been launched yet but I will linky when it does.

Heard about this from the Engadget feed, can't wait to get my hands on it, I've been waiting for the new style UI for a while (I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff).

:D

Surely there's no reason (except affecting sales) that they can't release a software update for Rider 2 ?

........but.....I'm on my 3rd cradle and its starting to get dodgy power connection again, think it might be on the actual rider unit now - rather than the pins failing on the cradle.

The previous two they've sent a free replacement out (TomTom) - even though its 3yrs old. Has anyone ever had the contact pad on the back of the Rider2 unit repaired ?

I have been waiting to see the new unit and feel they have still missed a big opportunity.
I use a Garmin 660 and hate it, it is so stupid with it's routing but it does fit nicely into my Autocom and phone etc.
I was really hoping TT would get their act together and add a hardwire option to the unit rather then bluetooth only.
Oh well - guess I will have to wait for Garmin to release a bug free update - oooh look a flying feckin pig....

well it arrived today, my new tomtom urban rider, just got to wait for the weekend to see how good/bad it is.

+1, the option to hardwire the audio is on my list too.

But have Tomtom finally worked out how to put and audio in/out socket on it. we don't all have love affairs with Bluetooth.

And so to cut down on the number of problems with the mount not charging they have made it an optional extra, so less people will buy it to start with, and if it does go wrong its just the mount they have to replace rather than the unit?

6 hours on Battery is ok for alot of average riders I suppose but not exactly great for touring is it?

Good call on making it come with a headset or not though as yea many people already have the bluetooth headsets - as long as the bluetooth isn't disabled on the non headset version...

I agree inserting a headphone jack would be a good selling point, but does cut down on the waterproofing.

Think I'll stick with my V1 for now.

Great news...

I was just about to buy a Garmin 660, I'm holding off until I hear how the new Tomtom performs :)

Kentgal or anyone!!

Does the Tom Tom Urban Rider come with the battery charging cable, that can be wired into the bikes 12 volt system:confused:

sorry to say it does`nt, its needs the same mount as the rider v2 but they are out of stock everywhere, tomtom are expecting it back in stock by the end of september. the unit works very well but tomtom need to get their act together.

you will need the power mount as well, the one supplied is a non power type, thats the part you cannot buy.

TomTom told me this cable works with the Rider Urban, by plugging directly into the unit.
Compatible with :
Rider Pro Europe
Urban Rider Europe
Urban Rider Regional

I hope that's the case:confused:

i have bought the cable, the plug will not even fit the sat nav unit, the fitting is for the mount.

i called tomtom again today, just got a sorry you will have to wait, i also called satnaveasy, handtec and 5 other online stores to be told the same, you can buy the mount from the states for about £100 + postage but the retail price when its in stock from tomtom is £44.99.

Thanks again:thumb2

Don't you just love TomTom:blast

I get a 7 day no quibble return, so it may well be going back, as I'm off to the Alps next week and claimed 8hr battery is good but not enough for a full days riding...
