Nice One...

Thank you, I'll be giving them a call tomorrow ;)

your better doing it online as you always get an answer machine, they seem to be a small one man band outfit, but they were reliable eveything arrived on time, complete and in good condition.

I've just had a look online, but their first available date is 23rd and we're off on 22nd:blast
I'll email my dates to them and hope they can match them:confused:

i called tomtom again today, just got a sorry you will have to wait, i also called satnaveasy, handtec and 5 other online stores to be told the same, you can buy the mount from the states for about £100 + postage but the retail price when its in stock from tomtom is £44.99.

Next week I'm off to Europe, and on several days, the Urban Rider battery will probably give up before reaching the destination
so I've just worked out a temporary on-bike charging solution, it's a bit of a compromise, but better than nothing and will help until TomTom get their act together and the powered cradles are available in UK.
I bought a in car charger lead, for TomTom Go730, from fleabay for £3.99, with straight mini USB connector, powered from my bike 12V power outlet, when the battery is nearly done, the TomTom will be placed in the tank-bag, on charge, and I'll continue to receive the audio instructions over bluetooth :beerjug:

So....if I buy the new Urban it should slot straight into my v2 cradle on the bike ?

I presume the basic version (£249.99 for regional) still HAS bluetooth but just doesnt come with a Scala Headset. ie I can still pair it with my autocom kit ? I can't believe they'd develop two different hardware designs, one with bluetooth and one without ? (although I CAN believe they'd switch it off in the software.....).

Does this version of the software still allow user POI ? I use speed cameras from Pocket GPS World - they've proved to me over the years that they are far more detailed than TomTom and Road Angel etc. They posted on their site a couple of weeks ago that TomTom will STOP user POI or rather alerts on user entered POI.

Obviously TomTom sell their own camera POI list.....so they're presumable reaping the benefits of controlling the operating system software and running the competition out of town !

Answered my own question I think, from the TomTom Site:

"Compatibility Helmet compatibility Supports leading Bluetooth®-enabled helmets "

If someone whose bought one can confirm that it pairs ok with Autocom Bluetooth, I'd appreciate it.

I've never got mine to work 100% with autocom to be honest, drops the telephone call randomly after 2mins. Sometimes I get a completely clear call for 25mins - other times audio is cut. I have to reboot the device to get ANY audio back (including voice directions).

Any feedback on Autocom compatibility greatly appreciated.

For £250 it starts to make sense to buy the new one.....rather than replace battery in mine etc etc. I doubt they'll release software update for v2 either....

Flipper Man
New TomTom Urban still using POI, I loaded some on yesterday and used - OK.
+1 for Pocket GPS World speed camera database.
Can't comment on Autocom, but it paired and worked well with my Cardo Scala & Nokia mobile.

Urban Rider Pro Map Issue

Something to bear in mind for lengthy trips abroad-

My new urban Rider arrived last Friday morning, plugged it into the PC and installed Tomtom Home.
First thing it tells me is that there is a map update available and would I like it?
Of course I would so i click the button. next screen tells me that the map update is to big for the Urban riders installed memory (2 Gb) so I have to select a "map zone" to install. Tomtom have split the maps into 4 zones, each zone completely replaces the installed maps, for instance if you install the Eastern Europe zone you lose the UK maps. You can change zones as often as you like but that isn't really practical if you're away from home.
I'm going on a 3 week tour of Europe next month covering countries that would require 3 of the 4 map zones!

This isn't really practical or a sensible move on their part, If Garmin can allow you to select what maps you need on a country by country basis then I don't see how Tomtom can't....
That together with the lack of a power cable in the box means it's going back to them, I'll stick with my Zumo.

JC - is there no longer a SD slot at the bottom of the device ? ie all internal memory now ?

Sorry, should have said- there is no way to add additional memory to the Urban rider.

Urban Rider AFAIK is intended for self powered commuter biker user.

Have been told .. that using Rider 2 power cradle helps overcome powering the requirement device.

Mount in the box (same as garmin Zumo) RAM-B-309-7 + RAM-B-201-A short arm + RAM-B-347

RAM-man
thanks for the info.

A good friend of mine has loaned his Rider 2 Cradle, for my Rider Urban Euro, my problem solved.
Earlier in the thread, Kentgal mentioned that the powered cradles should be available in UK, in September.

Longer Battery and uses the newer user interface, IQ routes and lane assist etc (which are questionable if you really need them on a bike anyhow).

I think its a more powerful device and will probaby be more future proof to any futher developments and means they probably won't do anymore software updates for the older riders.

Does seem like they dropped the ball if the internal memory can't take a euro map though - couldn't they have put more internal memory in?!? I've got a full western euro map on my rider 1 and that's under 2GB anyhow.

I've just ordered a zumo 220.

Whilst always preferring Tomtoms generally to Garmin it seems that Tts are not now such good value when you have to buy a power connector and this lack of a memory card slot is bizarre. When I holiday in Greece this August I do not want to be messing around with loading maps as I move across the eurozone.

How do I do routes on a Garmin? I had only just mastered using TYRE on my Rider!

Thanks GS Bloke and I joined the facebook group too!

Needless to say the last Tomtom map correction update I tried completely f****d it 2 days before going on a tour.....

One of the consequences of this was getting lost in Tunbridge Wells on the way to the Tunnel - but that's another story.

And so to cut down on the number of problems with the mount not charging they have made it an optional extra, so less people will buy it to start with, and if it does go wrong its just the mount they have to replace rather than the unit?

6 hours on Battery is ok for alot of average riders I suppose but not exactly great for touring is it?

Good call on making it come with a headset or not though as yea many people already have the bluetooth headsets - as long as the bluetooth isn't disabled on the non headset version...

I agree inserting a headphone jack would be a good selling point, but does cut down on the waterproofing.

Think I'll stick with my V1 for now.

For short journeys I just put electrical tape over the contact points on the cradle, slows down the wearing process...
