Hi,
Scoured the forum for a similar problem, but haven't been successful, so apologies if this has cropped up before. If so, a gentle nudge in the right direction would be most welcome.

Ok, so I want to wire my Tomtom V2 to use power off the bike. My bike is a R1150GSA. Both my external plugs are knackered, so I don't want to go that route, although I appreciated that would be ideal. I'll sort them out one day...

I've seen a lot of talk about canbus plugs, but am I correct in saying that these connections don't exist on the R1150's?

Can I wire the GPS straight to the battery? My Starcom is (via a fuse) and I've not had any problems there. If not, where?

Any help would be much appreciated!

I run my Garmin straight from the battery of my 1150gs, I can't see any problems as long as you have an inline fuse.

There's no problem wiring it straight to the battery, as long as it's fused. The TomTom mount doesn't even draw power when the GPS is detatched (unlike the Zumo one).

And you're right, canbus is only for 1200's onwards.

As suggested, fitted an in-line fuse bought for a couple of quid from Maplin and connected the leads straight off the battery terminals.

Everything works perfectly, thanks for the advice.
