The bump stop is hollow & compresses slightly when the stand springs back up. Did you measure the clearance between the foot & swingarm? When I had the standard linkpipe the clearance was 1mm with no weight on the bike ie on the sidestand.

One trip to Maplins, a little change from a fiver, 10 minutes of fiddling, 1 top drawer bodge and voila

Bike on sidestand and there is a nice clearance between centrestand and swing arm.

Bodgetastic!

I will follow up with the instructions and parts later.

It needs a road test now, see how it fairs after a week, but so far so good

WOW! WHat a sound that scorpion can makes :D:D:D:D:D:D

It 'feels' like it has a bit more grunt too, it was more readily lifting the front wheel, and 'seemed' much quicker.

The only problem i have found is that if you close the throttle at around 3Krpm or below, it starts making a kind of whistling (turbulence like) sound. I don't think i have done the bolts up tight enough, but i was worried about shearing them....i have a habit of doing that

"The only problem i have found is that if you close the throttle at around 3Krpm or below, it starts making a kind of whistling (turbulence like) sound" Thats easily sorted, don`t close the throttle ;) Joking aside though mine does that too

What did you use to fix to the bracket?

the centre stand bump stop bracket?

I got a few bit from maplins, i will list out the part numbers later with pics, but i esentially bought a longer pan headed bolt, bought some small rubber feet, and some larger hollow plastic 'ring thingies' (can't think of the word). Put the original rubber foot at the bottom, stacked two of the rubber feet over it, then the plastic ring things were just the right diameter to pull over the small rubber feet (which gives the bonus that should the rubber compress, the plastic won't), 3 of those, then bolted the whole assembly back to the bike and voila...fixed

re the whistling, did you get it with the baffle in? I wonder if its the hole at the exit of the pipe?

Yes it was the centre stand bump bracket.

I never noticed the noise when the baffle was in, it sounds to me a more mechanical noise than a whistle.

Just been re-arranging my office (and gouged my wrist on a broken chair into the bargain  )

Haven't had a chance to do the part numbers, BUT i fixed the whistling :D

I was right, it is the hole left by removing the baffle. I stuck my finger over it whilst stationary, revved the engine and no more whistling, take my finger away, repeat and the whistling returns.

I have stuck a small square of black electrical tape to the underside of the hole to close it off, i'll let you know tomorrow if it works :)

Erm.....Big Lee, is this for real or am I imagining it???

Fanum - i thought that too! but i think its just a plastic cover to protect the cable from water running down the wall, it certainly looks like a plug socket though!

Big Lee - It worked! Up until the point the black tape melted off! I need to get some proper heat proof sealant, but, the theory was correct

The offending "plug socket" on my neighbours house IS a cover for the satellite cable going in through the wall. Do you lot go over the pictures with a fine toothed comb or something??

well done Russ on that bit of detective work :thumb I might just pop a bolt through it.

Brian rang me today, he's going to send me a replacement link pipe to test.

I'm off to Maplins (again) to get some heat proof sealant, i will put a picture of the fix for the centre stand stop tonight
