Just got my riders seat back from Tony Archer, one week turn around and very reasonably priced including the postage, also a lot cheaper than a Sargent or a corbin, I had my seat lowered slightly and a gel pad fitted, my seat was the normal seat, I had it set on the lower setting as I have a 31" leg, having the seat redone means i can now my feet flat on the ground and should have a comfy place to park my b-m. All for £78.00. Also cheaper than buying a low uncomfortable seat from BMW. I hope this can be of use to other short leg people.:flag

Thought this was going to be about the new actor playing Tony Archer in 'The Archers . . . just me then?

I happen to find the standard low seat quite comfortable, firm but comfortable, and definitely better than my previous standard Explorer sear, but well done anyway!

We'll I hope you find it more comfortable than mine, I had my standard rider seat 1150gs remodelled byTA and the pillion seat, and YES had Gel inserts fitted. Total cost I think was £200, he reluctantly reduced it to £190 for cash.
You can only speak as you find..... And I find mine to be NO better than the original 10 year old standard seat and probably WORSE !!!! :blast

Have you ridden the bike since, ?? If so what distance. Are your thoughtsthat's,that's bloody comfy, value for money. I thought I should give mine a chance, but after a two and a half thousand mine trip my opinion was its SHITE :blast. So now looking at spending another bundle on a Sargent or Corbin.

Just out of interest, what price would you have thought reasonable for the fellow's work on the two seats?

Take it back if your not happy with it he will sort it out

I had my 800gs seat lowered and gell insert with new cover. Fast turn around and in my view, good value. Oh, I thought it was more comfy than the original.

I would have been more than happy to pay the full asking price £200 if there had been SOME IMPROVEMENT but being as there wasn't my opinion was that's £200, not well spent :blast

I'm guessing when you offered cash, you were in his presence? The reason for discount was you thought it was too expensive and that for some reason cash should automatically mean a discount. Or had you ridden around for a while decided it was worth less and then offered cash?

Intresting .... I have 29" inside leg no problem on the GS . I hazard a guess here , but if you have a massive arse and thighs the best thing for you is a stairmaster or go up and down some stair case 50 times. No need for gel ( proven to be useless ) as your newly developed gluteal muscles will cope with any seat and thiner but we'll toned legs will reach the ground:rob:D

As with many things in life, when you decided to try this you took a gamble. As such you should accept that it may not work so you have to accept the monetary loss with good grace. I too took both my seats of my previous GS to TA and spent £200 on having it lowered shaped gel pad and new cover with coloured sides, and a hump at the front of the pillion seat. After a 2000 mile tour I felt there was little benefit from this. BUT, the quality of the work was first class and at a reasonable price. My loss, but no reflection on TA.

Main benefit with a Corbin or Sargent is that you get a completely new base, which is wider and thus more supportive than the stock BMW seat base

Therefore no stock BMW seat modified by an upholsterer can ever be as comfy as a Corbin or Sargent (I have had both makes and modded seats too)

Corbin have a special process too, they don't use soft foam, like an upholsterer.............. but spray liquid foam into the new base, which then sets into the new base.

That is why Corbins appear hard to the touch , yet are so supportive and really are good seats

Always been happy with Tony Archer's work, I've had the seats of 2 GSA's modified by Tony and much preferred my modded seat to the Sargent so sold the Sargent with no regrets, quality job, quick turnaround and at competitive rates, I'd happily use him again :thumby:

I had my 1150 GS reupholstered and a gel pad fitted by Tony Archer about 6 months ago. Cost approaching £200 and took 3 weeks. I had a Wunderlich seat which I found uncomfortable and sold on here. The Tony Archer seat is only marginally more comfortable than the Wunderlich or standard seat. Luckily I resisted the temptation to sell my Airhawk. You waste your money and make your choice.
