Tony Archer

Don't want to hijack this thread but would anybody have knowledge of the best way to extend/replace standard 1150 GSA seat as mine
appears too short for pillion comfort.

Diet for the pillion?

Buy a Sargent or Corbing 1150 GSA seat, they both have 50% (approx) more pillion accomodation area

Swap the rack and seat for the 1150GS items and end up with 2 seats instead of 1, again the pillion will get more room and a bigger seat - to her(his) cheeks on :D

Always been happy with Tony Archer's work, I've had the seats of 2 GSA's modified by Tony and much preferred my modded seat to the Sargent so sold the Sargent with no regrets, quality job, quick turnaround and at competitive rates, I'd happily use him again :thumby:

I think old TA must have farted while stitching the lower seam. :D :D:D

Thanks JB, will have a look at those options. I bought the bike with intention of doing a long trip but need to sort out this issue first as wife ends up sitting on the rear grab handle (rack).

I am a 31" inside leg and have no issues getting on or off. The seat on the LC im told is actually narrower at the front which makes it easier to get on and off ( rainbow dealer info).
Re comfort, I find the stock seat fine. Plenty of long mile days vs short blasts and I feel great which makes me wonder why you would spend money on another seat. Although I always seem to see GS's with aftermarket ones on ! Maybe its just a gs thang ! ??

Would be interested in your thoughts after you've done a few miles, how the TA Seat compares to your original.. :beerjug:

I think its a weight thing. I've had no comfort issues with any GS seats, but I weigh less than 11 stone. Some of our heavier brethren squash the padding down too much, so need some gel to assist with the additional cargo.:augie:D

Touratech do a pillion seat extension for the 1150 GSA, you need to remove the grab handle but the kit comes with a replacement one which fits further back, I had one on mine and SWMBO was more than happy with it too, cheaper option than buying a complete new seat.

Comfort

This was my old seat done by TA far better than the standard seat took it to Italy no issues for me or the wife
If you had an issue with the seat after 2000 mile I can't understand why you didn't contact him and tell you had a problem he's a biker and likes to know if your not happy :beerjug:

I tried a Corbin for a day, nightmare uncomfy, obviously designed for fat arsed GS'ers as opposed to normal people. I'll stay standard methinks.

On my third bike with TA seats, all have been an improvement for me and the Mrs.

I guess if a single seat design could be made perfect for everyone then the manufacturers would fit them as standard, I think some TA seats worked better for me than others, none were worse, but for the price it is hard to complain, and you could spend 5-10 times as much and still not like the outcome.

All this thread proves is that nobody makes a perfect seat for everyone, least of all BMW apparently.
