Finally in the position to treat myself to a new GS.
I was a bit unsure about the 1200 looks and had the idea to revisit 1150 on ADV model

1200 options would have been the easy choice..
Yellow,silver,black,spokes and panniers..simple.

But trying to recapture the 1150 idea has given me a headache.
Colours easy...
then..
Standard seat or low option
Black seat or 2 tone
Enduro box or standard
Knobblies or Road tyres
Yellow or white indicators
Abs &servo or non abs
plastic or alloy luggage
Strong drink or medication!!!

I,ve spent ages on this site and others.
As ever so many conflicting views but hey, were all individuals

As ever moneys important and I,m looking for best value suited to my needs

Any recommended combinations re brakes, tyres, gearbox, seat height, luggage.etc What worked for you?

Main use will be on road daily commuting and leisure with annual holiday to europe.

Dont want to go all Charley and Ewan but don't want to buy kit that will fall short of what I,require and will require replacement either.
Go on give us your ideas!

Standard seat or low option... .Depends on how tall you are.......but don't be intimidated by the standard seat, you'll get used to it way more than you might imagine.

Black seat or 2 tone..... 2 Tone.....but you can always swap or get it recovered so don't lose sleep on it.....

Enduro box or standard....... Low ratio First.

Knobblies or Road tyres.... For what you describe, Tourances (or whatever it comes with as long as they're not deathwings, in which case ask for knobblies)

Yellow or white indicators... Who cares...!!!! (yellow on mine, paying for clear ones just seemed tarty and naff  )

Abs &servo or non abs ABS EVO....definately. (unless you're a riding god with 100% ability to overide gut instinct in panic situations every single time  PLus try and sell one without it and see what happens ;) )

plastic or alloy luggage.. .Alloy, speak to Vern soon.......(shhhh.....you didn't hear that ok?)

Strong drink or medication!!!... Why choose.....take both ;)

Fanum..Good positive reply!!!! and in silver red colour option too!!!
Thats the sort of thing I was looking for rather than umming and ahhing I,m getting from those "in the know".
..have now taken drink and medication:beer:

Condor....TBH I think the only way you'll find what you want is just to go and ride each for a day......the you'll know if you want the performance and lightness of the 12 or the charisma and presence of the ADV....I've said it before but I mean it, I'd buy another ADV if i had to replace mine, not a 12.

The rest, well I agonised over black or silver but at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter......I still go outside and just look at her, even if sometimes I look at a pic of a well sorted Black one (like Andy Leet's for sale one...now there's a beauty!) and wonder if I should have gone black nor silver.

The rest is all detail...you'll change tyres in 7k miles max anyway, so that's irellevant- but to start off with, I'd go street so you get used to the bike before going knobbly......the lenses and the rest are just luxury decisions that we should think ourselves very very lucky that they even register on our scopes as 'problems'.

Go and buy whatever rings yer bell mate, don't fret about it and go and cane her......and see you at LAnd's End for a pint ;)

Fanum you're right, this is all a luxury and we've all got our heads too far up our backsides at times.
I was just going throught he agonising you describe.
I cant get a test ride for at least another week on the 12 and the ADV until March.. God I've not had the sports bike out the garage since about october, thats why I want the GS again and soon! .My previous was an 1100 riden 365.I like the big presence so even without riding EITHER its got to be the ADV ,more my style of bike as opposed to the 1200 whatever its qualities

Listen To Fanum....

...and my 2cents worth is ride the bike a lot before you go blowing money on aftermarket extras, just buy what you really need, having said that, if you ride at night, get extra lights

Just get a Silver GSA with a Black seat (high or low, depending in your inseam) as 2Tone will mark badly and soon looks scruffy

ABS - trying is a MUST on the Servo equipped bikes, especially 1150's.........you'll either love or hate it,however it's more refined on the 1200's

Luggage - I'd go with black plastic BMW - more versatile and you can get bigger lids for more volume
The alloy ones are massive unless you need to get a lot of camping gear in

Standard box - most people reckon, it seems the low 1st is very low

Road tyres

I'd go with everything Fanum said, for the same reasons. With the exception that I have the higher 1st gear and love it. Brilliant for fast launches. After all, it's a big twin, tall gears are what they're all about. :)

Enjoy your dilemma, whatever you choose, you're gonna love it.

Just gone through the same dilemma myself and I'm still not sure about the colour! I've ordered a 1150 Adventure in black with yellow seat and knobblies and non ABS. I think White Aluminium looks great in pictures but when sat on the bike I prefer the black however I would be happy with either colour.

Angst no more and buy that second hand one on here somewhere. Fully loaded £9700 if I remember correctly.

Can't find it now :nenau

When in doubt, buy the lot. Better to regret what you bought than to regret not having bought it.:) Generous with other peoples money, me!:D

I'd go with everything Fanum said,

But everybody knows that Fanum is a tosser. To prove it he's suggested a silver bike!

All right-thinking people know black is best!

:D

Dude, chillout.

Take a cup of wulong tea (or a bottle of rice beer) and...

Just improvise by heart if there's multiple choices. ;)
