Too Much Choice

Hey everyone,

Just joined the forum as I'm trying to decide on which adventure bike to get to replace my aging SV650.

Currently looking at the offerings from BMW (F800GS), Triumph (Tiger XC) and Yamaha (XT660). All seem really good bikes.

I'll apologies in advance for the daft questions.

I'm new here too. I have an XT660X at the mo and I'm thinking i want to swap to a GS. Probably the 1150 due to money constraints. The XT is great around town, but sucks on big A roads and motorways. I'm always seeing GS riders chucking them through traffic, and the other is a given. Hope that helps.

I've rode the GS and the XC

The GS has a softer power delivery and is slightly better put together with a strong European dealer network

The XC is more road biased, has a very smooth and linear power delivery and is British!

On balance for mainly road riding I'd take the XC, for a on/off road RTW adventure I'd go with the GS

The only thing that concerns me about the GS is the size of the fuel tank, on an 800cc only having a 16 litre tank seems quite small, the tiger's got 19 litres with the XT a whopping 23 litres.

I know it comes down to how efficient the actual engine is (and how it's ridden) but can't seem to get a consensus on that either.

I had an 800Gs and could get 200 miles out of a tank. thrashing the arse off it and you still get 50+mpg ,Nice smooth ride and you can get late 60's pushing low 70's mpg

Thanks, because of it's similarities to the SV I had considered it but when I saw it in person just didn't like it.

The more brutal/practical look for Tiger, GS or XT is just more appealing.

Triumph's engine designers dont seem to worry too much about fuel consumption. So if fuel range and practicality matters, get the Beemer - 1 litre less tank capacity is neither here nor there. If you prefer it's style get the Trumpet. 5 litre spare fuel cans are cheap enough.
