Too much info! Need help

Hi folks -please don't groan. I am going to buy an ebay cheapie as travelling through europe in June. I have a very good sense of direction and don't normally use maps so why I am thinking about this I don't know!

I haven't got the readdies to buy a Quest etc but it looks like I have narrowed down choice because of budget and I can get a secondhand Streetpilot or GPS 111 for less than £100 but which one?

I don't need detail, just town by town would be good. I know I need an atlantic version, but your help would be appreciated as I am getting more confused as I read more!

A Garmin GPS V, does auto route, but has a small built in memory of around 19mb but could be cheap

None Auto route GPs’s to consider;
A small Garmin GPS III or III+ (the 3+ allows a small a amount of detailed mapping to be loaded to the base mapping, neat and effective
Or
A Streetpilot Mono, much bigger display, takes a data cards for detailed mapping but it can be very slow to re draw and the screen washes out in the sun (badly).
Or
A Streetpilot Coulormap, in my opinion it little better than the above mono, it doesn’t auto route to streets and of course it doesn’t talk, maybe a little quicker to draw. The Classic eBay rip-off as buyers think it will guide them like an SPIII

So it seems its going to be:
GPS III
GPS III plus
GPS V
Streetpilot
Streetpilot Colormap

Which is the neatest as I have read that some are fairly bulky for mounting on the bike?

The Garmin III, III+ and V all seem to share the same case and are little bigger than a decent phone (as is the Quest).

A ‘cheap’ Garmin V and a copy of Roads & Recreation Europe would be nice, especially as R&R will work on most GPS’s as there is no unlock rigmarole.

Personally, I wouldn’t bother with any of the Streetpilot series until you get to the Streetpilot III or better.

The GPS V is a maybe option.
I would not consider any of the others.

Only down to cost really. I can't justify an expensive model because I know I won't use it. I think I only need ' town to town, mapping to save digging out the map on our journey to Croatia (where I know it won't work!).

We'll be travelling through France, Alps, down to Italy, Slovenia and into Croatia. Back via Eastern Europe probably. Therefore I only want a cheap unit and I can't say I need one here in the UK

Just looked at Ebay. SPIII making more than new Quests between £300 and £450
