Too short for a standard GS?

Yes but because the bike's lower, you'll have lean it over farther than a standard height bike at the same speed in any given corner.

I tested a lowered bike first and was unimpressed with the handling and then tested a standard height model which felt much nicer.

At 5' 9" with a 29"ish inside leg, I'd used low seats on my four previous GSes but so far, I'm happy with the standard seat on the standard height WC. However, I've registered with Sargent for early notification of when the seat for the new bike is released and I might well consider a low Sargent as their seats are likely to be wider than standard.

We're only talking 20mm suspension lower.

I had a factory lowered 09 gs for three years put 20k. On it with no problems I'm 5.11 with 32 inside leg only thing I had to change was the seat I put a standard height replacement seat on which felt a lot better for myself distance from pegs to top of seat , as for handling found it as good as a standard gs rubbed outside edge of boots quite regularly , olso the stands are lowered which made quite easy to place on have since moved on to a gsa p/x at dealership who was more than happy to take said it would not be in showroom long which it did not,a lot of shorter people wanting one but finding the height a little to much on standard bikes
Go for it and enjoy

Welcome aboard Shamone. As long as you take care when you stop you should be fine. You look small on that. Is that Woman speak for i don, t like those.

Lol, you're probably right. She said the same when I sat on a Busa a few years ago.

(I'd deffo not have a low version come resale time it will cripple you.) Well their,s a quote that s a load of bollocks if ever i heard one.
Im 5,7 short arse and on my second factory lowered Gs , the only thing i clocked with the first one is it had ohlin lowered shocks and a lowered seat but it hadnt had the centre or side stand lowered to suit , so i was giving my self a hernia trying to get it on the centre stand and it was just off upright when on the side stand so i didnt trust it and got both of them lowered are part of the sale
The toilet i now have is also factory lowered with all the gizmos If i stiffen up the suspension on two and luggage i cant get feet on the ground even soft and one up i have to watch when its loaded and banked over or coming to stop on an incline ,
re-sale value my first one was re sold in 3 days there are a lot of people put off by the adventure bikes being high or they think they are so a big market for lowered.........no problems re selling it at all

I'm just under 5'6" with 29 leg. I ride a standard GSA but with a Sargent low seat. No problems solo or 2 up and loaded. You'll be fine.

Yep, 5'7" 29" inseam as well.
I have a custom low seat (original BMW low, remoulded)
I have lowering springs in the garage but don't have the know how of how to do it :blast

One question, when lowered why does it stand more upright on the side stand and more awkward to put on centre stand, does it lower the frame to make ground clearance different? I thought it would just lower the seat to swing arm height? Or is it the lowering of the front end spring alter the height of the frame?
As you can tell I know all there is to know about bikes :D

Factory lowered models have stands lowered as well. Some diy lowered don't bother. No problems with my 08 factory one. Lower Centre of gravity so corners better (I think).

As for grounding, lhs engine bars. Rhs foot rest. Good sh market as there are not that many about.

Probably been posted before but.....

heres how to do it if you are a short arse

Reminds me of Lou and Andy off Little Britain the way he puts the bike back as if nothing happened :D

Hi Shamone, I came from a CBF1000 MK2 (great underated bike) which I had from new for 1 year, then moved onto a Triumph Explorer which I kept for 1 year, now I'm on my superb GS-LC Standard Height, which I've owned for 6 months.

I have done European Tours on all 3 of these lovely bikes!

You are going to absolutely love the GS-LC it is the best of both worlds (all worlds) it is a much better tourer that the CBF1000, it is much more capable with much longer legs than the biffer. When I say longer legs I don't mean 'taller' I mean it covers long distances with ease, it strides along the motorways and gallops up the distances without effort and when you get into tight twisties like alpine passes, it's the most fun that you can have with your clothes on, totally brilliant and IMHO beats the Triumph hands down.

As for the height you are the same dimensions as me, and I shied away from the buying the aircooled GS because of it's height when I tried it, so I bought the Explorer instead, but the new GS-LC feels like a baby after my Triumph, and it is a smaller bike than the aircooled GS, it's very well balanced and very chuckable.

With the missus on you can drop the height if you need to at the touch of a button, put it on '1-helmet' mode (not whilst on the move) and the bike becomes quite a bit lower if you have a pillion, more so with luggage.

I was going to go for the lowered bike but Ryan at Pidcocks strongly suggested that I should buy the standard bike with the lowered seat if necessary, his advice was bang-on and I'm pleased that I took it. I think that you will be fine on the standard bike but try them both, at least twice with your pillion, and then make your choice....you can't make a bad call, low or high both great bikes!

5'8 with 29" inseam, I have the lowered suspension model, can place the balls of both feet down and always feel comfortable whatever the incline i have to stop on.

Things to remember, your legs usually get shorter in your riding gear, especially leather pants and when riding with a pillion or luggage you will adjust the suspension, this again heightens the bike.

Best advice would be to try in your riding kit and test with pillion and the suspension set. I can only touch both feet toes down when set for luggage.

roughly same dimensions here too (5'8"). No issues with a standard height GSLC with standard seat (but in the low position). I can 'almost' flat foot both feet at a stop.

easiest test would be to straddle the bike yourself.

.

It's looks like having a lowered vs standard height bike is down to personal preference at my height, rather than being a necessity. Thanks for the feedback.

After all that I went with standard height and low seat which I picked up today.

Just getting used to putting one foot down. Only had one slight moment where the bike went the opposite way and I had to quickly put my other leg down.

5.7 ,29 inside leg and own a factory lowered and lowered seat.

Just got in the door from the ors weekend, and run on a standard wc with a lowered seat, No problems , apart from the usual binning it on the learning curve,,,, but Christ the confidence it's inspired is something else

Residuals if you are worried about lowered suspension etc ,my last one sold within 3 days of putting it on the market, the actual amount of short arses now trying the GS has increased
So don't be worried about that
Enjoy :thumb2

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that when you load the bike up with luggage, you raise the centre of gravity.
Having the lowered bike makes it much more controllable coming to a stop. I can get both feet flat on the floor. Much better IMHO. (5'9" & 29" Instep).

I am 5' 8" with 29" inside leg. I have a standard GS with lowered seat. When I got the GS I booked myself onto the BMW level 2 road skills course. It gave me the confidence to handle the GS - highly recommended course.
